Role Summary

The Senior Program & Events (P&E) Specialist is a subject matter expert in the planning, implementation and evaluation of large-scale employee programs and events owned and supported by the People Team across Alaska and Horizon. This includes annual employee meetings, summer, and winter employee celebrations and more. As an individual contributor, this role requires minimal direction and exercises considerable judgment to partner with key stakeholders, provides strategic recommendations on event experiences and program design, and fully executes on efforts.

Key Duties

  • With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgement in developing and executing strategic program and event project plans owned and/or supported by the People Team. This includes (1) developing creative briefs or proposals to pitch event recommendations, (2) creating detailed project plans to keep work on track, on time and on budget, (3) developing high-level reporting to keep leaders apprised of progress, and (4) developing communications to promote activities.

  • Guides and coaches the P&E team and other stakeholders, including executives, on program and event strategies, tactics and messaging to help inform, engage, connect and inspire employees.

  • Identifies issues and opportunities for all P&E efforts, collaborating with team members to revise processes and approach, ensuring best-in-class outcomes that drive efficiencies and increase positive engagement among employees.

  • Partners with the senior manager of communication and events to improve strategy and operations of all P&E efforts.

  • Identifies and communicates unresolved problems and possible timeline issues in advance of event, recommending actions for mitigation.

  • Builds event registration sites to promote and track registration.

  • Coaches and mentors team members on project management, reporting and event/program communications.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in marketing, communication, project management or business administration or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience developing and delivering successful programs and events.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Certification in project management, and or extensive experience in managing and evaluating projects of varying complexity.

  • Demonstrated experience in program and event design (and redesign) to improve effectiveness and efficiencies.

  • Proficiency in Cvent registration site development.

  • Outstanding communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and presentation skills, with a demonstrated commitment to clear and transparent communication.

  • Strong organization skills, with exceptional follow-through and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.

  • Ability to deliver prompt and calm responses to unexpected issues or change.

  • Professional and resourceful, with a high level of integrity and confidentiality
