The Sr. Chief Engineer, Gear Technology and Advanced Gear Manufacturing leads a team of gear engineers, advanced forging engineers, and advanced gear manufacturing engineers in the design and development of all types of gears and splines for Meritor’s geared products globally. This position also provides expert specialist guidance in gear design, gear manufacturing, gear-related trouble-shooting, and the application of geared products to other Meritor product engineering groups and manufacturing plants. Responsibilities require a high degree of gear engineering and gear manufacturing experience and would be considered a critical technical expert in the gearing industry.
Job Responsibilities:
Principal Accountabilities:
•Manage and lead a team of gear engineers, advanced forging engineers, and advanced manufacturing engineers in the design and development of all types of gears and splines offered by Meritor globally
•Develop Technology Roadmaps and gear strategy plans over a 5 year horizon which anticipates customer expectations and industry trends
•Develop appropriate succession plans to ensure future bench strength and continued industry leadership in gear design and manufacturing
•Provide leadership and mentoring for less experienced engineering staff, to develop problem solving skills, engineering judgment, and decision making skills
•Coordinate and direct engineering projects to ensure program objectives are accomplished according to schedules and budgets
•Develop and maintain a department operating budget
•Interface with Meritor’s global manufacturing plants to provide support and drive continuous improvement in gear manufacturing
•Review product designs for compliance with internal engineering best practices, GP3 and I2C requirements, and OEM specifications
•Lead the implementation of state-of-the-art gear design and manufacturing practices, including communication, collaboration and CAD/CAE/CAM capabilities
•Coordinate the Meritor global Gear Technology Conference and lead the Global Gear Council
•Actively participate in outside gear research activities including AGMA, GRI, OSU Gear Lab and others as necessary to lead innovation and develop Meritor’s presence

Education/Experience:
•BSME or equivalent required, MBA preferred
•Minimum 10 years experience in gear design and manufacturing
•Experience using industry gear design software preferred, including Gleason T2000/Cage, Kimos, and Calyx/T3D
