Your Role & Key Responsibilities

Elida Beauty markets a wide and global portfolio of personal care products. The quality and safety of our productsareour highest priorities. We are looking for an experienced microbiologist to ensure that microbiological safety is built into the design of our productsthrough the use ofthe optimum choice of chemical, processing and packaging preservation approaches. Reporting into the Regulatory Manager, the work involves close collaboration with our third-party manufacturers and testing laboratories, together with colleagues in formulation, packaging and quality. The successful applicant will be constantly seeking new and better preservation solutions and will keep abreast of technology advances in microbiology and preservation science. You will have a pivotal role in investigating and rectifying any contamination issues, and implementing the lessons learnt. By maintaining a watching brief on preservative PR and regulatory issues, you will be able to anticipate their impact and ensure the product portfolio is well positioned to avoid any adverse consequences.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all products in the portfolio are microbiologically safe by design, with special emphasis to ensure new products arising from innovation programmes have successfully passed challenge testing when appropriate.

• Primary liaison with outsourced microbiological testing laboratories (challenge testing and contamination investigation)

• Assigning hygiene risk assessments to all products with clear instructions on how the scores should be interpreted in terms of manufacturing, quarantine and micro-testing.

• Support quality colleagues to prepare the hygiene aspects good manufacturing practice for all product platforms and to keep this updated.

• Run the period after opening programme for UK and continental EU products using third party laboratories.

• Take the primary lead in investigating microbiological contamination incidents in raw materials or products and apply root cause analysis to identify the cause. Make clear recommendations on how to prevent a reoccurrence.

• Maintain a window on the world of preservation through contacts with academia andsuppliers  toidentify better and/or morecost effectiveapproaches, especiallynon chemicalprocessing or packagingsolutions

• Key representative of Elida Beauty Limited within organization as well as externally across various key stakeholders and organizational bodies.

Requirements:

• A degree in microbiology or a closely allied subject

• Demonstrated through proven experience an understanding and good knowledge of the preservation of personal care products and manufacturing hygiene.

• Experience and knowledge of preservation science and microbiological challenge testing, including rapid methods, and identification techniques for contaminating microorganisms.

• A creative, logical and analytical mind to generate innovative solutions to technical design problems.

• Ability to apply business leadership skills understanding and prioritise the impact of design decisions on cost, consumer and environment. 

• You will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated with good verbal and written communication skills.  Able to communicate design and engineering principles to people at all levels of the business, across different functions.

• Experience of working in partnership with x-functional partners beneficial, especially Supply Chain and quality
