Solution Architect – Big Data, Analytics and AI/ML

The role is within a collaborative team who work across the broad data analytics and AI estate. This can provide the opportunity to touch upon traditional and modern approaches and technologies ranging from end user reporting through to AI and ML. We are seeking an individual who will relish the opportunity to work across this diverse spectrum in a cloud-first environment but who can bring an immediate experience of big data and AI/ML related approaches to complement the team.

What you’ll be doing:

• As an architect specialising in the ML domain, you’ll build technical relationships across the organisation and operate as a trusted advisor, ensuring ASOS obtain most value from the cloud at every stage of their journey in adopting Machine Learning across ASOS.

• You’ll manage the overall technical relationship, for Machine Learning related projects, making recommendations on security, cost, performance, reliability and operational efficiency to accelerate projects.

• You will be the voice of the customer, sharing their needs and wants to inform the roadmap of AI/ML features. In this role, your creativity will link technology to tangible solutions, with the opportunity to define or invent cloud-native Machine Learning reference architectures for a variety of use cases.

• You will participate in the creation and sharing of best practices, technical content and new reference architectures (e.g. white papers, code samples, blog posts) and evangelise about running Machine Learning workloads and industry ML trends (e.g. through workshops, user groups, meetups, public speaking, online videos or conferences).

• Oversee the technologies and options for deploying, inferencing, and monitoring machine learning models online at scale, along with the associated patterns and standards.

• Work with scientists to develop architectures which improve the speed of iteration and experimentation of machine learning features in production, while also improving overall AI and data product awareness and appreciation.

• Work with the wider architecture community to continually improve upon ASOS's ML capabilities and reach across the ASOS estate.

• Assist in ensuring the smooth delivery of products, solutions and initiatives that empower the organisation to obtain greater value from its investments.

• Work within the immediate team of solution architects to strategically evolve the architecture estate that enables analytics and AI.

• Be an ambassador for the technical capability of ASOS Tech both internally and externally.

Who we’d like to meet:

You are an experienced Architect who is passionate about applying machine learning to solve business problems, seeking to apply this expertise and passion to a dynamic environment while making waves in the industry.

A candidate with in-depth expertise in most of the following technologies:

• Cloud technologies that cover the big data, analytics and AI/ML domain is essential with experience using Azure highly advantageous

• AI platform related technologies such as Azure Machine Learning and ML Flow.

• Azure IaaS (VMs, VNET, NSG Rules, VPN Gateways and Express Route), Creating, deploying, configuring and scaling applications on Windows Azure PaaS

• Container technology, specifically Docker and Kubernetes

• Data persistence technologies such as Cosmos DB, MongoDB, SQL Server

• Data and analytics engines such as Apache Spark (knowledge of Databricks is a plus), Elasticsearch, Synapse Analytics

• General programming languages and frameworks, in particular python and/or Scala and .NET

• General technology practices and development lifecycles such as agile and CI/CD but also those enabling more efficient employment of data and machine learning such as DevOps and MLOps.

• Deep learning frameworks and machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and XGBoost.

A candidate with capabilities and experience in the following:

• Technical architecture leadership and direction on projects resulting in secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable platforms.

• Architecture skills that enable the creation of future-proof, complex global solutions using Azure PaaS services.

• Machine learning techniques and algorithms such as supervised/unsupervised algorithms, computer vision, NLP, and deep learning.

• Implementation and/or creation of foundational architectures, including microservices, event-driven and event streaming, and those that enable online machine learning systems.

• Excellent communication and influencing skills, being able to adapt according to target audience.

• Strategic thinking, delivering artefacts such as future state architectures and roadmaps that consider the wider and longer-term implications while maintaining pragmatism.

• Appropriate planning to support the delivery of core capabilities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring suitable rigor.

• Industry experience in eCommerce, particularly retail.

It would be advantageous, although not essential to have the previous experience in:

• Research and publishing.

• Implementing model-as-a service framework and principles.
