Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining and supporting the Application Performance Monitoring solution via SolarWinds software running on the enterprise cloud environment and on-premise. You will supervise, manage, and execute the daily activities of Enterprise application monitoring design, solutions, engineering, and sustainment of SolarWinds for Application Performance Monitoring efforts.

Additionally, you will design a full monitoring solution and then instrument into all monitoring tools that best fit the application customer needs. Create documentation of all steps and training for application customers and enable integration of SolarWinds development of the single pane of glass dashboard, including integration with ServiceNow ITSM.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain Development and Production SolarWinds Orion Environments

• Responsible for creation and management of nodes.  Node types including:

• Windows and Linux Servers

• Network Devices (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Access Points, etc.)

• VMware (ESXi) host servers

• Various appliances

• External nodes

• Build and apply custom SAM templates Example templates: Websites (HTTPS)

• Applications • Services

• TCP/IP Port Monitors

• Custom Powershell monitors

• Custom Linux monitors

• Monitoring of APIs

• Create and Modify SolarWinds Dashboards (Views)

• Create Custom Reports to track application performance and business metrics

• Configure new alerts and modify existing alerts as needed

• Configure Web Performance Monitor (WPM) recordings for websites

• Develop PowerShell scripts for monitoring needs

Additional Responsibilities

• Develop scripts to automate actions within SolarWinds via the SolarWinds API

• Assist L1 Systems Operations and Monitoring team with monitoring escalations

• Provide on-call support as needed Experience Required

• 3+ Years SolarWinds Administration experience

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Strong problem solving and analytical skills

• Strong understanding of the following SolarWinds components: Network Performance Monitor (NPM)

• Server and Application Monitor (SAM)

• Web Performance Monitor (WPM)

• NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA)

• Strong understanding of the SolarWinds API and an ability to create scripts to utilize the API

• Strong understanding of Powershell and Linux scripting technologies

• Familiarity with Windows Server and Linux operating systems

• Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server

• Familiarity with ICMP, SNMP, and WMI polling methods

• SolarWinds Certified Processional (SCP) Preferred

• Experience with Azure/AWS Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Education, Required Skills & Competencies

• HS diploma or GED and 20+ years of experience with systems engineering, Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of experience with systems engineering, or Master's degree in CS, IT, or Engineering and 10+ years of experience with systems engineering
• 4+ years of experience with SolarWinds and with installing agents, SNMP and WMI polling, APIs, performance monitoring tool alerts, dashboards, and data trend analysis in a monitoring tool
• 3+ years of experience with ServiceNow
• ITSM Experience in data engineering with SolarWinds for both ingestion and extraction
• Experience with maintaining SolarWinds and its underlying infrastructure and planning
