Project Overview:

Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Position Summary:

This role will support design development of Structural engineering designs for the GBSD program project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with Seismologists, other Geotechnical and Structural engineers, and other technical disciplines in a team environment. 

 

Responsibilities:

Provide modeling and analysis of soil-structural models subjected to blast loading using the computer program ABAQUS.

Familiarity with the theory and application of nonlinear soil and structural models and computational methods for nonlinear analysis.

Technical writing and presentations.

Perform formal calculations, reports and memos documenting results for clients.

Review existing conditions and as-builts drawings.

Review customer information and integrate it into the design solution.

Characterization and modeling of nonlinear behavior of soil and structure and analysis on multi core computer systems and processing the results for design application.

Must be proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.

Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.

 

Basic Qualifications:

Level 1: MS degree in Engineering (Structural, Geotechnical, or related), from an accredited university, with at least 8 years of experience in modeling and analysis of soil-structure systems, or PhD degree with at least 6 years of experience.

Level 2: MS degree in Engineering (Structural, Geotechnical, or related), from an accredited university, with at least 11 years of experience in modeling and analysis of soil-structure systems, or PhD degree with at least 9 years of experience.

Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the United States.

US citizenship is required per contract requirement.

Ability to obtain DOD security clearance.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

MS degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.

Experience modeling with computer program ABAQUS.

Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs.

Excellent communication skills (including both technical writing and presentation).

Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

Broad knowledge of the application of Structural and Soil engineering design principles.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Possess active security clearance.

Experience with codes, standards, and regulations for characterization of model and methods for soil structure interaction analysis.

Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.

Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.

Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
