In the Azure for Operators division of Microsoft, we are transforming the way that service providers globally run their networks, enabling them to move their workloads from private data centres to Azure to realize gains in scalability, reliability, manageability and cost efficiency.  Leveraging the expertise gained through the acquisition of Metaswitch we build award winning solutions providing highly scalable and fault tolerant systems that run right in the core of some of the biggest service providers and mobile operators networks worldwide. 

We are looking to recruit Software Engineers to join the Azure for Operators team in our Cambridge office. 
 

We work in a fast paced, collaborative development environment using modern tools and techniques to reliably deliver the highest quality voice network software.  Our engineers work in cross-discipline agile development teams, which encompass a mix of software development, architecture and testing expertise.

Responsibilities

• As part of a collaborative agile team, driving the development and delivery of cutting edge voice network function.   
• This includes hands on design, development and testing, but also helping to drive the entire engineering process from defining requirements and agreeing specifications through to feature delivery. 
• Taking an active part in improving the engineering process, and actively sharing knowledge with others.  
• Mentoring and coaching less experienced members of the team.

Qualifications

Qualifications  
 

• Excellent coding skills across at least one of C, C++, Rust or Java. 
• Experience using common software development processes; e.g. source control, build pipelines, code review, regression testing frameworks, bug tracking/fixing, …  
• Confident in their communication skills: capable of explaining complex concepts or technologies to other engineers.  
• Experience of working in an Agile development environment.  

• Passionate about troubleshooting and solving complex problems.   
• Energy, enthusiasm, versatility and creativity.  
• Familiarity with network automation and virtualization / containers (eg Kubernetes) is beneficial – although extensive training will be given.  
• Understanding of IP Networking, switching and routing is desirable.  

We are looking for flexible candidates with a “can-do” attitude who are passionate about voice software solutions.    We are also looking for people who can be based in our Cambridge office at least 50% of the time.
