Software Engineer III SUMMARY 

This individual will provide development expertise, technical analysis, and program leadership to the portfolio of applications in the Mobile Workforce portfolio. The Software Engineer will be working with the Mobile Workforce team to build technical designs and implementation of complex applications. This role will interact periodically with application architects, engineers, and operational staff to drive delivery of complex solutions.  The individual in this position will use their broad technology background, industry knowledge, and facilitation skills to develop and/or enhance automated solutions to the requests made the product owner and technology teams.  This role will also require overseeing & providing development guidance to the third-party contractors and vendors involved in solution definition or development. In addition to development, the duties involve evaluating third party and open-source software and interacting with various other technology teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Lead and participate in the development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of highly complex solutions in adherence to company standards, including robust unit testing and support for subsequent release testing.

Candidate must be willing to learn new patterns, development languages, integration with different Cox systems and welcomes fast paced environment.

Responsible for delivering high quality working software and automating manual/reusable tasks working directly, and engage with, the business from the beginning of the design work. 

Leverage continuous engineering practices to deliver business value regarding effectiveness of the design. Actively participate in refining user stories. 

Responsible for providing automated monitoring capabilities, providing warranty support, and providing knowledge transfer to production support. 

Ensure design and architectural approaches are aligned with development, operations, infrastructure, and security 

Work with technical analyst, infrastructure engineer and enterprise architects to ensure architecture is aligned with company architectural standards and strategies

Build non-functional monitoring capabilities and provided escalated support for highly complex applications in production. 

Build in and maintain security controls and monitoring in support company standards

Analyzes internal and external customer feedback to identify quality gaps

Solve complex technical and operational problems while act as a resource for less experienced teammates

Ability to implement the integration of other systems and assist in the evaluation of third-party services

Helps identify new tools and or products to aid, enhance, or speed up the design and development process

Performs proof-of-concept (POC) using newer technologies to better demonstrate certain capabilities to business partners.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally, 8+ years’ experience in related field.  advanced degree and generally 5+ years’ experience in related field.

Requires strong  knowledge of Software Design and Development lifecycle.

Requires strong  knowledge of Software Development Methodologies.

Good interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate and partner with enterprise architects, technical leaders, and Business partners.

Excellent program / project management skills and an ability to manage a portfolio of initiatives.

Displays the ability to influence people regardless of reporting relationships.

Displays a high level of technical and organizational critical thinking and analysis, and the ability to strategize and look ahead at the big picture.

Displays good communication and negotiation skills both horizontally and vertically.

Ability to operate with considerable latitude and independent judgement – should be a self-starter, and should require little following up to get things done. 

Possesses good listening skills and articulates in ways that are understood by the listener.

Recognized subject matter expert and recognized internally for knowledge and expertise in technical domains.  May contribute to external publications and participate in industry events.

Technical experience developing and using traditional stacks/platforms: Oracle DB, SQL, JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, Bootstrap, jQuery etc.), JBoss Fuse, Perl, HTML5, Java. Among others. 

Be a team player

PREFERRED

BS/BA degree and 10+ years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in software engineering or computer science

Knowledge of specific applications, technology platforms, programming languages, systems, or business segments

Familiarity and/or experience with Agile (Scrum or Kanban) software development methodology.

Workforce Management Systems experience (e.g., Oracle Field Service Cloud and Salesforce.

Working knowledge of DevOps standards and disciplines, including deployment and build automation, continuous integration, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platforms-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Continuous Delivery Experience with Open-Source tools and frameworks

Experience with cloud technologies, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

Strong understanding of SOA and/or Open API methodologies and service architectures

Experience using web servers, application containers, caching technologies

Solid knowledge of relational database design and development (SQL, stored procedures, data modeling)

Experience with messaging systems (i.e., MQ and JMS)

Experience with build tools, such as Git, Maven, and Jenkins. Proven ability to write comprehensive unit and integration tests
