We are looking for Software Development Engineers to join the Prime Video on Video Gaming Devices (VGD) team. The VGD team owns the Prime Video and IMDb TV apps on high-profile gaming devices like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X (and also streaming media devices like Apple TV). The work you will do has a direct impact on our millions of customers around the world. We are looking for a polyglot experienced software engineer who is excited by the challenge of working across multiple tech-stacks and languages including C++, C# and TypeScript.

Our 2022 roadmap includes launching the PV app to more devices, as well as building features to drive engagement, such as personalised recommendations and big tech investments in CI/CD, as well as a tech migration for two of our key platforms.

Candidates will have an understanding of stable, scalable systems that have been successfully deployed in a business setting. You will be passionate about technology with a focus on the customer experience and great teamwork.

You will work as part of one of our small Agile teams, launching and growing new initiatives for Amazon's global business. As an engineer, you can be involved in every aspect of the process - from idea generation, business analysis and technical design through to development and deployment across a variety of technologies - giving you a real sense of ownership. Together we build systems which meet high standards of performance and reliability and operate at massive scale.

Amazon is a place where builders can build. We're looking for engineers who can delight customers by continually learning and inventing. From day one, you'll be working with experienced engineers, designers and applied scientists who love what they do.

We offer a strong benefits package including healthcare. This is your opportunity to develop a rewarding career, work in a unique environment, and be part of a passionate and international team to work hard, have fun and make history!

Please let us know if you have any special requirements in relation to this recruitment process.

Key job responsibilities
As an SDE in the PVP team you'll be building software to run the Prime Video app across a wide range of Living Room devices all with different hardware capabilities. Because we work over many devices you will use a range of languages, including but not limited to C++, TypeScript, Java and Swift. As well as writing code, you will regularly review your team’s code to provide useful feedback and suggestions, you'll mentor and coach others in the team.

You'll be involved in writing design documents and proposing architectures best suited to the problems we're trying to solve.

Operational Excellence is vital and you will be expected to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, often working across multiple teams. You will work independently during on-call shifts, effectively mitigating customer-facing issues and be in regular operational review meetings. You will also get the opportunity to work with major Living Room device partners to understand their device capabilities and find how we can utilise them to provide a great experience for our customers.

A day in the life
As an SDE in our team no two days are the same, we work with multiple languages, multiple devices and collaborate with many teams across Amazon. You'll spend time building new functionality to maximise device features and hardware capabilities, you'll think big, propose new initiatives and work on technical design documents.
