Job Description

A vacancy exists within the Road & Rail Traffic Control Systems team for an engineer with a strong interest in signalling systems.  Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and an aptitude for logical thinking are key attributes for the position.  You will report to one of the Senior Engineering Leaders and work closely with other engineers within the team in a variety of roles.

You will have a good understanding of the fundamentals of Railway Signalling engineering and its practical application to high value programmes.  You will provide your knowledge across the signalling spectrum, from Line Upgrades to Asset Strategy Development, you will input and inform on a range of activities from initial specification right through to the disposal of legacy signalling systems.  You will be providing day to day management and technical advice to the project team on signalling engineering matters, ensuring that an integrated solution, that meets the requirements, is delivered.  You will also be ensuring that stakeholders are appropriately assured of the direction and quality of engineering outputs, helping to deliver vital programmes to keep some of London Underground’s busiest lines working smoothly.

Key areas of knowledge required include:

An understanding of signalling and control system engineering concepts, ideally with experience in both legacy and modern signalling and/or control solutions; electrical or electronics engineers with an aptitude to learn will be considered

Delivery of projects through the complete life cycle; concept to operational service, using your knowledge of governing standards and industry best practice

Experience of personal responsibility for providing professional engineering support to major projects and maintenance organisation(s), where there are complex interfaces is desirable

Good understanding of the fundamentals of railway signalling principles and their practical application to improvement and renewals works is desirable

Skills

Ability to communicate engineering concepts to non-expert audiences at all levels of the business

Ability to effectively engage with and influence stakeholders

Ability to identify and evaluate options, including cost and timescale implications

Ability to think strategically and make connections across the business

Essential to have the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the team but also to work independently where appropriate.

Qualifications & Licences

Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Telecommunications or similar subjects with an aptitude for practical & innovative engineering solutions
