Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Hours: Rotating Days/Nights
PURPOSE OF JOB
The Maintenance Technician’s role is to support the safe and timely completion of preventive and corrective work on critical factory assets. This is an individual contributor role, responsible for hands-on technical work, but this position work with a 10-person maintenance shift, and directly supports other teams such as Operations, Quality and Safety.
This role reports directly to a day-based Reliability Manager and indirectly to the applicable Shift Technical Lead.
Position Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and systems during factory runtime and down time. Adjust based on evaluations taken during the shift.
- To respond to unplanned work orders to bring equipment back to production, safely and quickly.
- Ensure complete and timely closeout of unplanned work orders with a clear description of the observed problems, actions taken and any follow-ups that may be required.
- Communicate issues observed to the System Technician and develop solutions for recurrent issues.
- Inspect equipment for wear, metal fatigue and damage.
- Rebuild and fabricate parts and equipment.
- Drive implementation of a “Continuous Improvement†organization that demonstrates improvement by continuously driving faults lower.

- Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot and cold, dust, dirty and chemicals
- Perform assigned preventive maintenance on equipment and systems.
- Work with the System Technicians to improve performance of systems.

- To thoroughly train associates new to the area.
- Able to complete all tasks in the area abiding by Mars Safety Practices.
- Able to complete all tasks in the area assigned by manager abiding by the Quality Practices and Mars Safety practices.

Required Qualifications
- Current maintenance associate with experience in plant operations, including significant knowledge of instrumentation and controls or must have 3 years of experience in a maintenance environment, preferably within manufacturing. Knowledge of electrical systems using various voltages (480 VAC, 120 VAC, 24VDC, 12VDC…). 480 VAC RMS is the highest voltage this role will work, in most situations.
- Controls and instrumentation knowledge including, but not limited to, Wonderware HMI system chart recorders, resistance temperature detectors, pressure differential transmitters and 4-20 mA loop control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) hardware. This role does not require mastery of PLCs, but a successful candidate should have enough understanding of PLCs to effectively troubleshoot plant assets. Each shift has at least 1 dedicated PLC technician, but the candidate for the Shift Technician role should understand PLCs enough to resolve most electrical / controls issues with little to no support.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve technical problems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints as well as basic intermediate PLC ladder logic.
- Working knowledge variable frequency drives and basic motor controllers.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Each associate is responsible to complying to Mars Petcare quality and food safety policies, procedures, QMP and other auditable quality, food safety and regulatory standards in order to ensure a safe and quality product intended to delight the consumer.
- Basic material machining and welding knowledge.
- Predicative maintenance skills (desired, not required).
- PC skills including the use of MIS system to plan and close work orders.
- Knowledge of industrial plant systems, equipment and operations.
- Team working skills at a variety of function levels.
- Proficient in the use of industrial mechanics tools, electrician’s tools, instrumentation and controls tools and rigging/millwork tools.
- The ability to operate a forklift and obtain forklift operation certification.
- Able to complete all tasks in the area assigned by managers abiding by the Mars Safety and Quality Practices.
- Physical requirements: Ability to perform all needed physical activities without restrictions. (Maximum of 50 pounds lifting.)
