SENSORY SCIENTIST - BABY, FEMININE, FAMILY CARE

THE OPPORTUNITY

Do you enjoy and have passion for the area of Sensory Science and would like an opportunity to develop Sensory methods to delight all of the senses at the various touch points of a product usage experience? Are you energized by the opportunity to translate insights into action that deliver measurable business results?

As a PhD Sensory Scientist in our Baby, Feminine and Family Care Sensory Capability group in Cincinnati, OH you will use your technical curiosity, data analysis and technical method development experience to deliver and design superior holistic sensorial delight within our portfolio of products for Feminine Care. Feminine Care is a $5B global business unit with leading brands like Always, Tampax, Naturella, and Always Discreet that span across multiple platforms like pads, tampons, liners, underwear and cups. The Sensory Scientist will collaborate with Product Development to define sensory program focus areas, align key projects and design/deliver actionable results that influence product design. We use best in class sensory methods that delight all the senses to support softness or odor reduction claims, to monitor competitors and to ensure that products are of a consistent quality.

It is a dynamic, fast-paced job with lots of variety, as the Sensory scientist interfaces with all projects across the globe to understand their sensory needs, design sensory test, analyze and interpret results from sensory panel testing and ultimately play a critical role in guiding business decisions.

AS THE SENSORY SCIENTIST YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Working with teams to design sensory studies to support new product development, modeling and claims substantiation
  • Maintaining robust sensory panel methods and to guide business decisions using data generated
  • Develop new sensory methods and identify method improvement opportunities based on the needs and objectives of the project teams
  • Working with panel leaders to train and qualify sensory panelists on new sensory attributes and methods
  • Summarizing and communicating the panel results and make informed and actionable business recommendations that will help influence business decisions.

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Have experience in the selection, training and qualification of Descriptive Analysis Panels
  • Be agile and flexible and able to solve problems and resolve conflicts in an effective and timely manner and to embrace change quickly to enable team and projects to meet business goals
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to consolidate, interpret and present data, conclusions, recommendations in both written and oral formats
  • Have the ability to collaborate with project partners from a diverse set of functions including Products Research, Technologist, material developers and process engineers across all levels of the organization
  • Have experience in experimental design and applying critical thinking techniques to ensure that experiments deliver against the research objective and/or scientific question in the most efficient and effective design

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Sensory Science or related field with a Sensory emphasis, e.g. Food Science, Neuroscience, Physiology, Psychology. A Master’s degree in these fields with a minimum of 3 years work experience in Sensory analysis, strong applied statistics knowledge and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with design, set up and coordination of sensory experiments and studies
  • Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis to solve defined business problems and understand sensory perception of products
  • Currently reside within commuting distance to the office or have the ability to relocate to Cincinnati, Ohio – generous relocation benefit provided
