Job Purpose/Overview
The Sr. Principal Technician Pilot Plant utilizes the proper techniques, procedures, and training necessary to support and lead the execution of Pilot Plant trials/experiments. He or she is responsible for the application of technical expertise in product formulation and the operation of small scale equipment & machinery. This work plays a critical role in assisting in the advancement of new products and technologies. The Senior Principal Technician Pilot Plant is responsible for being a lead for technical support, troubleshooting and scale up for R&D projects. He or she is also responsible for providing insight and process/product feedback to cross functional partners regarding Pilot Plant trials.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Principal Technician Pilot Plant role is responsible for:
- Providing technical expertise while supporting Pilot Plant or lab trials
- Ingredient weighing and formula trial preparation
- Calibration and operation of Pilot Plant equipment/machinery
- Upkeep and cleaning of Pilot Plant area and equipment
- Coach and mentor technicians and developers in technical matters related to the pilot plant
- Working closely with developers and scientists to ensure collaboration and knowledge transfer
- Ingredient inventory upkeep
- Record documentation e.g. lab book, ingredient lot tracing, experiment observations, trial results
- Ensure compliance to Quality, Safety, HAACP and GMP policies and adherence by pilot plant users
- Coordinate and complete planned maintenance activities and repairs
- Diagnose, manage and resolve technical issues in the pilot plan
Context and Scope
The Senior Principal Technician Pilot Plant role is responsible for following trial test designs provided by cross functional partners but also providing input and feedback based on technical expertise. The Sr Principal Technician is there to provide troubleshooting and technical guidance for product and process improvements/efficiencies essential for product scale up. This role should be able to influence without authority by providing input when it comes to the technical challenges/decisions within R&D projects.
Education and Professional Qualifications
10+ years of experience in manufacturing environment or a related field
Associates degree or technical certifications are preferred.
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum qualifications: 7+ years in a technical role in the food manufacturing industry - hands on operational experience with small scale process equipment/machinery.
Preferred qualifications: 7+ years in a technical role in the confectionery manufacturing industry - Hands on operational experience with small scale process equipment/machinery. Knowledge of confectionery manufacturing processes and understanding of ingredient functionality.
