Advanced Systems Group (ASG) is a newly formed stand-alone division of Brunswick, the world’s largest recreational marine business.  We are seeking a Senior Sourcing Manager to join our Electrification team in ASG. 

This Senior Sourcing Manager will lead the strategic sourcing of High Voltage energy storage, power management and charging solutions and development of supply base partnerships within the High Voltage Battery Packs, Chargers and on-board Power Distribution Systems for a broad range of marine and mobile vehicle applications.  The successful candidate will have several years of experience with vehicle electrification in the automobile, transit bus or commercial vehicle industries.   This position represents a chance to define the sourcing approach non-automotive industries will take on the development, integration and validation of high voltage energy storage systems and charging infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sourcing of High Voltage battery and charging solutions for marine applications
  • Understand and execute tradeoff studies between available technology solutions
  • Manage partnerships with key suppliers to deliver on new product programs
  • Support compliance and certification to applicable standards for marine energy storage systems
  • Train and mentor less experienced procurement engineers
  • Coordinate vessel-level system activities with the support of a cross-divisional team
  • Works with all engineering disciplines needed to develop system requirements and architectures and establishes systems capabilities and operational concepts
  • Spans all phases of the product development cycle, from concept development and system architecture to product launch and field support
  • Develop team capability to support future cost-effective electrification development
  • Continuously survey HV market for new suppliers and emerging technologies
  • Establish and manage development relationships with technology partners

Strategic

  • Map the landscape of supplier partners for:
  • HV battery components
    • Contactors
    • Cells
    • Heating/Cooling
    • Module packaging materials
  • Charging Stations / components
  • HV Power Distribution
  • Consider future supply disruptions in material, transport, etc.
  • Along with technical staff, evaluate future technology plans for suppliers regarding battery chemistry and design.
  • Develop an understanding of the supply dynamics around battery chemistries and raw material sourcing (i.e. cobalt, lithium, etc.).
  • Coordinate ASG electrification sourcing efforts with counterparts in Mercury and other areas of Brunswick.

Tactical

  • Work with other parts of ASG to drive efficiencies in the procurement systems, specifically for electrification.
  • Lead the development of MOU’s, NDA’s, RFQ’s and other supplier-related contracts
  • Meet with supplier candidates to learn of their capabilities and products. Record and communicate this information.
  • Perform competitive analysis for electrification components.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field: Science, Engineering, Business and/or Supply Chain related degrees.
  • 5+ years of experience in sourcing, procurement or supply management.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and partners
  • Extensive experience in supplier relationships and contracting
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and organizations.
  • Desire to work in a highly dynamic, new technology area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience with electric systems or components
  • 10+ years of sourcing and supply management experience with tangible achievements at both the tactical and strategic level

This position will be based in the ASG Tech Center in the Grand Rapids/Lowell Michigan area.   This is the primary location for our North American product development and testing facilities.
