Responsibilities

The Azure Core Fundamentals team is looking for a Software Engineer to invent, design and implement brand new portfolio of service monitoring, auto-analysis, data insights & intelligent micro-services' auto-diagnosis.

Distributed systems are evolving at an amazing rate resulting in astronomical complexity to rapidly zero in on and mitigate outages when systems start to misbehave. Detecting issues before they happen, speedily localizing faulty entity when problems manifest and mitigating faults in distributed systems is a hard and complex problem. We are building systems that will allow us to define this nascent space and evolve it into an industry leading phenomenon.

In this role sky is the limit. You will be responsible for building distributed services that consumes crucial service diagnostics &  signals to pinpoint misbehaving services, model how ideal deployments work,  measure the efficacy of a broad portfolio of core system services, and much more. You will apply full-stack solutions, backend distributed services & big data strategies to solve these challenges and engineer solutions to enhance and improve the Azure Core platform holistically. You will be able to bring your creativity, crazy ideas and put them into production at a quick pace. Every day is a new challenge and a new problem to solve as we work in a startup mode striving to change the world.

You'll be exposed to many distributed services across Azure, allowing you to learn quickly and grow professionally by understanding different types of service designs without moving teams. This is a high visibility position in an area of large and expanding investment for Microsoft Azure Core and offers a terrific opportunity for technical growth and career advancement.

We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Full-stack development, backend services, large scale distributed systems, real-time & offline data analysis, data engineering, machine learning;   reliable, high quality software development; fault, and performance monitoring; eagerness and drive to solve problems.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software development
• Strong computer science fundamentals
• Experience using scripting languages such as bash, Python, and PowerShell, or compiled languages such as C/C++, C# and Go are most relevant, but others are acceptable
• Curious and excited to solve the next problem

Preferred Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related experience
• Demonstrated ability to learn, grow, design efficiently, and write code
• Distributed systems knowledge
• Practical experience running large scale online distributed systems
• Azure experience, or comparable proficiency in large scale systems and service management; networking experience a plus but not required
• Experience in Kubernetes & ETL pipelines would be a plus
• Conversant with analysis, and machine learning technologies to improve existing capabilities and build new ones
