Job Summary:

Disney Streaming (DS) is looking for a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join the Web Core Services Developer Experience team. We are a distributed team focused on increasing developer productivity by streamlining tooling and libraries for the DS suite of web applications, including Disney+, Star+, Hulu, and ESPN+. As part of this team you will be responsible for delivering what aims to be the largest media streaming platform in the world.

We work on Macbooks and rely heavily on containerization and cloud services.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement reusable architecture and patterns that set the direction for web development across DS.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand their pain points and requirements.
  • Provide documentation that empowers developers to use shared toolsets/interfaces.
  • Create and maintain assets that are shared across web applications and beyond.
  • Review and test other developers' code.
  • Identify and evangelize industry best practices.
  • Create and maintain CLI tooling and other instrumentation interfaces.
  • Work with the web infrastructure team to enhance CI/CD practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Deep interest in applying technology to complex, distributed systems.
  • An automation mindset.
  • 5+ years of technical experience.
  • Expertise in most of the following: NodeJS, Typescript, React, NextJS, Webpack, CSS, Bash, Docker.
  • Ability to write documentation and communicate technical topics with clarity.
  • Familiarity with web architecture concepts like performance measuring, autoscaling, failover, redundancy, traffic analysis, etc
  • Experience developing internal apps, libraries, or CLI tools
  • Ability to empathize and build consensus across teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building geographically distributed, highly available web applications.
  • Experience implementing design systems.
  • Experience working on projects that span multiple teams.
  • Knowledge/experience with AWS products and services.
  • Knowledge/experience with CI systems such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Github Actions.
