Job Summary:
ABC News’s new Galaxy facility will be structured as a software-defined production environment, requiring the skill sets of a person well versed in large scale software development & deployment projects in broadcast production. The successful candidate will be the bridge between the broadcast operations and development teams involved in the construction of Galaxy. They will take the direction provided by the ABC News Operations management team and define the structure, schedule, and deployment of these workflows. The candidate will manage all aspects in implementing this process including software development, managing the deliverable product and reporting back to the executive team.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding the operations of all broadcast equipment and technologies within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to:  audio mixing consoles, outboard equipment, audio & video routing, digital audio production servers, microphone & IFBs and their signal flows, mix minus, intercom devices & software, MADI, SIP and Telephony
- Focus on integrating AOIP workflows with Telephony workflows in a very large scale environment, for example: SIP workflows with IP Intercom, SMPTE 2110-30 audio workflows in managed IT environments, etc.
- Work with internal ABC News teams as well as outside integration/design teams to deploy these workflows in on-air environments
- Prioritize and disseminate complex information among the production organization in a clear and concise manner to ensure seamless productions
- Understanding of special event coverage and the needs of outside remote production/integration
- Problem solve and troubleshoot using effective communication to best convey issues and resolutions
- File reports & SOP, on specific workflows, and equipment
- Seek out information in regards to the workflow of other business units, including their impact and/or specific integration with Production Operations, and utilizing that information to enhance processes and/or educate others.
- Participate in and/or develop training programs, (physical, classroom, virtual, etc.) for self-career development especially regarding any relevant equipment and workflow changes within the operation
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years in managing large projects in vendor/manufacturing environments with tight timetables
- Experience in IP based audio/video environments including SMPTE 2110, AES-67, DANTE or Ravenna
- Experience in programming large scale intercom environments, such as those of RTS/Bosch, ClearCom or Riedel
- Experience in wireless intercom, beltpacks and IFB deployments
- Knowledge of complex television production workflows, and in-depth knowledge of AES, SMPTE and IETF standards and practice
- Proficient knowledge of all TV Production equipment and technology within assigned operating areas, including but not limited to; audio signal flow concepts, dynamics processing, equalizers, metering concepts, audio & video routers, intercom systems, signal conversion equipment, communications panels - hardware & software, microphones/IFBs etc.
- Understanding of Remote Event Workflows and Terminology
- Demonstrated ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines combined with organizational, efficiency and planning skills and an ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment
- Problem solves and troubleshoots using technical acumen and strong communication tools to best convey issues and resolutions
- Experience seeking information regarding workflows of other business units, including their impact and/or specific integration with your role, and utilizing that information to enhance processes and/or educate others
- Candidates must have a strong computer background (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc...)
- Flexibility to alter shifts/days off and work overtime to accommodate projects and departmental objectives including the ability to work nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSCS/BSEE or equivalent preferred.
- Demonstrable Knowledge of Broadcast Communications Equipment
- Significant knowledge in IP methods – any CCNA certificates a significant plus
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service to our partners.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Studio Production, or related field
