Bloomberg’s Core Application team develops innovative solutions to empower our customers to make timely and insightful financial decisions. We do this by focusing on streamlining our clients' workflows by giving them access to Bloomberg's Market Data and services in Microsoft Office on Desktop, Mobile, and Web. Our products enable spreadsheet models to automatically update and re-calculate on any platform as financial markets change!

We are a versatile team of engineers using a broad selection of modern open source tools such as Node.js, GraphQL, and React alongside Microsoft desktop and Azure technologies. This technology stack serves as the foundation for our team’s portfolio which encompasses microservices, Excel Custom Functions, and Single Page Web Applications for authoring these Custom Functions. One example of a powerful Excel Custom Function offered to our customers leverages the Bloomberg Query Language (BQL), a financial domain language to execute complex analytics in the cloud.

Where do you come in?

We have an exciting opportunity as we expand our BQL portfolio in Microsoft Office. You’ll bring your technical expertise and curiosity to design, develop, and enhance BQL Custom Function services in a C++ and Typescript environment. This initiative is an integral part of making BQL a primary tool for accessing and analyzing Bloomberg market data by our customers on the go in both desktop and web/mobile environments. Your work will solve complex problems that focus on addressing scalability, performance, and availability to satisfy 325,000 of our customers while fulfilling over 4 billion requests monthly.

We’ll trust you to:

•  Analyze business requirements, collaborate with internal development groups, and design & build innovative infrastructure that bring the power of Bloomberg to our global client-base
•  Work in an Agile environment, take ownership of projects, collaborate with colleagues, and develop high quality scalable solutions using a test driven approach

You'll need to have:

•  3+ years of experience developing successful service oriented solutions
•  Solid knowledge of algorithms and data structures
•  Strong knowledge of SDLC principles, modern design patterns, and TDD
•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•  BA, BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technology field
