Keep reading to learn more about this opportunity to join the Cox family of businesses.

Cox Automotive is currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Site Reliability Engineering to join our team.

This position is REMOTE. Eligibility is limited to US Residents currently residing within the Continental US or Hawaii.

This Senior Site Reliability Engineer will work closely with the Manheim Location Operations Delivery Stream, focusing on the Recon Release Train, which is currently comprised of 15+ development teams. This is an exceptionally exciting area of the company, as we are expecting to realize exponential upside from the products this group is generating.  Consequently, this particular role is reserved for a hard-hitter, a seasoned veteran, with masterful grasp of the craft, a conqueror of all things cloud.  Downtime fears you, and no metric is hidden from your sight. Reliable Delivery is your name.

Beyond contributions to the Recon Release Train, this role will participate meaningfully in the ongoing improvement of the larger SRE community and practice within Manheim and Cox Automotive. The Site Reliability and Release Engineering communities are tightly integrated, collaborating on the development and implementation of a wide range of ideas and initiatives.  While the engineers who comprise these teams are extremely senior in their scope, there’s a refreshing tendency toward humilty and a rejection of hubris that sets the tone for mutual respect and open high-trust interaction, resulting in fruitful engagement, and teams that are the envy of the enterprise.  SRE is the place to BE. Honestly, everyone here considers it a priviledge to work with the other – it makes doing what we do even so much more enjoyable and satisfying. Come and see for yourself!

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Cox Automotive, you:

Have a consultant’s mindset – you LISTEN, understand, and lead your customers into the goodness of Reliabilty practices

Have incredible communication skills – you put the cookies where all the kids can get to them

Are strongly averse to clicking in a UI, and only ever do it with one hand while pinching your nose with the other and grimacing

Understand the power of empowering – Shift the SRE power to the devs to the greatest degree possible

Sleep wth Jez Humble books under your pillow

Have an irresistible compulsion to automate EVERYTHING – testing, deploying, monitoring, etc.

Are able to take a complex and possibly ill-defined problem and produce a technically reasonable solution, with visuals

Shamelessly don’t know everything, having a keen sense of the balance between connecting the dots yourself and reaching out to the team for perspective in the name of expedience and efficiency (no cowboys, no energy sinks)

Display a strong sense of ownership for the work you produce

Have been accused of muttering “Everything As Code” in your sleep and have a “Cattle, Not Pets” bumper sticker on your car

Daydream of a future with no “Root Cause Analysis” because nothing ever goes down anymore, and you are a major reason for it

Are, in the meantime, a champion of and well-versed in the value and practice of blameless post-mortems, always iterating toward increased Reliability

Are self-aware, and realize we are all growing together, and we want to help each other do exactly that – you win when we win

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 10+ years experience OR MS w/ 8+ years experience OR 14 years experience of equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education.

Expertise in software development and architecture/solutioning

Thoroughly steeped in Agile practices

Strong background with Infrastructure As Code  (Terraform and CloudFormation)

Deep experience with Amazon AWS technologies including: ECS, EC2, IAM, Lambda, Cognito, WAF, Elasticache (Redis), Elasticsearch, RDS, DynamoDB,SNS, SQS, S3, Systems Manager

Experience with CI/CD tools – cool points if you’ve worked with CodeBuild, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy, Github Actions, Jenkins

Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills and a sense of drive

Strong Linux/Unix background (they probably know your name at Red Hat, and you can’t decide whether your BSD or Sun Solaris tattoo is your favorite)

Experience with different database engines – MySQL, Postgres, Aurora-MySQL, Aurora-Postgres

Must have experience with monitoring/alerting/ observability tools such as: New Relic, Datadog, Splunk PagerDuty

Excellent written communication, problem solving, and process management skills

Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment. Actually.

Python development experience

Experience with or a desire to work with Dart and Flutter mobile development
