The Material Science, Lab Planning and Execution (MS-LPE) group is part of the Translational Science and Diagnostics (TS/Dx) team. TS/Dx leads internal and external diagnostic research & development activities to support multiple disease areas of interest including hematological malignancies, inflammatory diseases, neuroscience, cardiovascular, fibrosis, and solid tumors. The TS&Dx group integrates scientific and business insights of multiple functions to provide innovative patient centric precision medicine solutions.

This position reports to the Principal Scientist, Lab and Material Science, Lab Planning and Execution who is responsible for the oversight of developing and executing biophysical characterization of key reagents for supporting a wide array of BMS programs. This position will have accountability for independently with minimal oversight performing innovative method development to enable biophysical characterization of custom-made reagents for use across multiple technology platforms, including but not limited to: Flow cytometry, IHC, and immunoassays. Additionally, the individual in this role will be responsible for collaborating and communicating across the organization to assure on-time delivery of high-quality characterized materials.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Development of methods across multiple platform modalities to support reagent characterization
Develop novel methods utilizing Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), circular dichroism (CD) and/or other technologies for protein reagent characterization
Utilize BLI, SPR and/or other technologies for screening, binning, and pairing assays to assess biophysical/binding properties of antibody reagents
Perform method development and troubleshooting activities for immunoassays
Oversight of scientific collaborations and/or contracted research as needed
Develop constructive relationships across organization to achieve the goals of the function and the business
Ensures compliance with and maintains required training per BMS standard operating procedures
Ensures that notebooks and other documentations are maintained current as per departmental guidelines
Achieves objectives in a manner consistent with the BMS Behaviors
Contributes to scientific publications and posters internally and externally
Skills/Knowledge Required:

BS or MS with 6-8 years relevant experience or a Ph.D. with 3-4 years of relevant experience in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related life science.

Strong understanding & experience using a wide array of analytical laboratory techniques
Ability to work in a methodical and organized manner
Strong focus on quality and compliance
Proven track record of scientific approach to complex problem solving
Experienced managing scientific collaborations and/or contracted research
Proven written and oral communication skills
Capable of effective team building and teamwork skills with multiple functions
Detail-oriented with the ability to identify and implement creative solutions
Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently
Demonstrated ability to develop constructive relationships across organization to achieve the goals of the function and the business through leadership roles on cross-functional/divisional teams
Experience with BLI, SPR, immunoassays, and/or circular dichroism
Experience in biological sample handling
Experience in scientific writing and presentation
Additional Skills/Knowledge Desired:

Specific experience working with immunoassays and BLI/SPR
Experience in Cell Culture
Experience with automation
Knowledge of GCP, 21 CFR Part 11, FDA Bioanalytical Guidance
Working understanding of the immune system
Experience supporting assay development, qualification and/or validation for clinical and non-clinical studies - for example, but not limited to, ELISA, EIA, RIA, Western Blot, ECL, IHC, Gyrolab, and flow cytometry
Good operational skill of ForteBio Octet and MASS-2
