More precisely, the Senior Research Assistant will provide support with the following deliverables:Working paper detailing the evidence of what incentivizes agroecology, based on a review of case studies (2022)Scientific-based methodology (e.g. Delphi approach) developed, piloted and applied for eliciting private and public sector perceptions of the enablers and barriers to shifting to agroecology (2022/2023)Scientific paper and accompanying database presenting results of a systematic review of metrics for monitoring the enabling environment for actors along food supply chains focusing on cocoa and rice commodities (2023)Facilitation of workshops and development of outreach and messaging materials, to engage primarily private sector stakeholders in Peru and Vietnam, with the aim of co-creating and delivering on opportunities to improve food supply chain monitoring (2023/2024) Responsibilities The Senior Research Assistant will support the European Commission (EC)-funded Agroecology Transitions project, being responsible for the following tasks: Characterize and document the different types of incentives or linking mechanisms that lead to behavioral or preference changes at the corporate, farm, and landscape levelsSystematize, review, validate, and consolidate existing case studies from the private and public sectors incentivizing agroecological food systems at the farm and landscape levelSupport with analyzing the types of incentives or mechanisms and investments used by the public and private sectors across contexts in terms of cost, effectiveness, efficiency, and overall impact in transitioning towards agroecological production systemsContribute to conducting economic and financial analysis of incentive mechanisms for transitioning to agroecological food systemsContribute to peer-reviewed articles on the incentives used by the public and private sectors enabling agroecological transition and on the bottlenecks or gaps for transitioningContribute to the development of presentations, infographics, blogs, or other types of media for communication with the public and private sectorsPotentially travel to attend in-person project meetings and visit project sitesContribute positively to the function, team spirit and mission of the Alliance as an institution including through actively encouraging and seeking collaborations within and across internal research teams, and with external research and development partnersHelp secure funding to continue project activities by contributing to proposalsSupport with communication of scientific research to a wide audience through writing blogs, peer-reviewed articles and representation at international conferencesPerform other related duties as required and assignedRequirementsRequirements Professional education and/or experience working in agricultural economics, behavioural economics, food supply chains, agroecology, agronomy, food systems, or related relevant disciplinesAn understanding of business concerns, interests, approaches and constraints to supporting sustainable food supply chainsExperience with systematic literature reviews and other literature-based data collectionExperience with designing and conducting questionnaire surveys or interviews or other qualitative data collection approachesExperience working on multidisciplinary scientific projects, preferably within an international environmentProficiency with data entry and analysis software (preferably R) would be advantageousProficiency with the use of geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial data analysis (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS or R) would be advantageousConscientious with high attention to detailDrive and entrepreneurship to pursue and develop new research opportunitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with other cultural backgroundsWell-developed skills in personal organization, priority setting and problem-solvingWillingness to travel occasionally to support project activitiesExcellent command of the English language, both written and spokenProficiency or working knowledge of French, Spanish or Vietnamese languages would be beneficialBenefitsTerms of employmentThis is a locally recruited position. All benefits are denominated and paid in EURO. The salary is level 5, in a scale of 14 levels, with level 14 being the highest. The salary range starts from Euro 29,450 per annum. The remuneration package includes a competitive salary, leave provisions, medical and life insurance, and non-contributory retirement plan. The salary is exempt from French income tax (an internal taxation is applied). The contract will be for a period of 1 year, subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
