Location: Home based with regular travel

Salary: Â£38,000 - £40,000 depending on experience plus car/car allowance

Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week

At the RSPCA we've been at the forefront of animal welfare since 1824 where we were founded in a London coffee shop and we'e proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. With our 10 year strategy Together for Animal Welfarewe want to improve the lives of more animals in England, Wales, and internationally than ever before and without our dedicated staff and volunteers, we wouldn't be able to achieve all that we do for animals.

We're expanding our RSPCA Behavioural team and are looking for an experienced Senior Clinical Animal Behaviourist to champion behavioural standards across the organisation, ensuring we're doing the best we can for animals in our care. The role will be mostly focussed on dogs, but there may be some work involving other species on occasion (mainly cats).

As Senior Regional Clinical Animal Behaviourist, you'll play a key role in improving our insight into the behavioural problems and outcomes for animals in our care. You'll ensure consistent decision making across RSPCA animal centres throughout the country.

If you're looking to make an impact in an exciting new role in one of the UK's best known animal welfare charities, we can't wait to hear from you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Line managing 3 Regional Clinical Animal Behaviourists, supporting them in the assessment of, and development and implementation of behaviour and welfare plans to maximise successful rehoming of dogs across the RSPCA with more complex behavioural needs
  • Delivering training in canine welfare and behaviour modification to staff across the Society
  • Assessing and acting as an expert witness in prosecution of cases involving dogs and taking the lead in euthanasia decisions on behaviour grounds.
  • Managing and developing the relationship with the regulatory body that represents animal trainers, training instructors and animal behaviour therapists (ABTC) in cooperation with the Head of Clinical Behaviour.

You'll have:

  • Extensive experience of working in the field of dog behaviour rehabilitation and welfare
  • Experience working on a national scale
  • Graduate qualification in companion animal behaviour and welfare or other relevant subject
  • ABTC accredited Clinical Animal Behaviourist, full member of APBC or equivalent
  • Practical hands on experience of handling dogs with a range of problem behaviours, ideally in a rescue environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise own workload and to manage time efficiently, and to undertake travel with possible regular overnight stays
  • The ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations, and remain assertive and steadfast under challenge
  • Line management experience
  • Demonstrable dedication to animal welfare and sympathy with the RSPCA aims and values

What's in it for you:

You'll have an opportunity to work for the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales and to make a real impact on the welfare and future of dogs brought into our care. We value and recognise our employees'contribution and are proud to offer an extensive benefits package that includes:

  • 35 hours standard working week
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 30 days with service
  • A generous pension scheme with associated life assurance and group income protection scheme
  • Access to private healthcare scheme
  • Support for professional development after the qualifying period
