Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for calibration and maintenance of all assigned metrology gages / measuring and test instruments in the Prototype Department. The incumbent must adhere to BorgWarner standards and operating procedures in maintaining and calibrating the gages. This position reports to the Prototype Quality Supervisor. The incumbent provides metrological expertise to various projects in PCO including quality related problem-solving projects, new product development projects, and continuous improvement projects. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating all calibration (in house) by outside sources.

The incumbent performs detailed layout inspections on variable-cam timing and timing drive components and assemblies during pre-production phase.

The incumbent provides metrological support in setting up co-ops and engineering. The incumbent maintains all assigned standard procedures and updates them as needed. The incumbent performs Gage R&R, Gage Linearity/Bias studies as required per standardized procedures.

(S)He must maintain own work schedule with little supervision to cover prototype requirements.  The individual has regular contact with department supervisor and, which requires tact to avoid friction and impose influence to obtain results. The described duties are semi-diversified, somewhat repetitive in nature, and require little supervision.  The incumbent must perform analyses of facts to determine actions that could have an impact on final product reliability.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to maintain calibrations / preventative maintenance of various metrology gages / measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, CMM, assembly and testing equipment etc.
  • Responsible to calibrate as well as perform layout inspections on variable-cam timing and timing drive components and assemblies.
  • Build custom gages and modify/rebuild purchased gages to meet BorgWarner requirements.
  • Setup co-ops and engineering as needed.
  • Responsible for material inspection reports / inspections / layouts as requested by various groups including product engineering, manufacturing engineering.
  • Responsible maintain records of all calibrations and inspections in appropriate designated systems including AS400 gage calibration program, SAP, Microsoft Excel.
  • Responsible for coordinating all calibration (in house) by outside sources.
  • Responsible to calibrate all load cells gauges used in assembly and testing processes.
  • Conduct various gages/ measuring instruments training for new/current operators as well as new co-ops.
  • Perform Gage R&R studies, Gage Linearity and Bias studies as per metrology lab procedures.
  • Support metrological requirements on various quality related problems, engineering development projects and continuous improvement projects.
  • Review and maintain all relevant metrology procedures in Teamcenter. Periodically review and update as needed.
  • Order new gages, replacement gages as needed.
  • Perform all assigned EIP safety audits.
  • Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Six years related technical experience.
  • Associates degree a plus.
  • Must possess working knowledge of TS-16949 and ISO-14001.
  • Must have experience with computerized systems and internal audit systems.
  • Must possess good mechanical skills, as well as have the ability to utilize gauging and measuring devices.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical blueprints.
