Project Overview
The ML2 Project includes the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.
Position Summary
This position is for a Senior Quality Engineer who will support the project engineering team to ensure overall quality deliverables associated with this project.
The successful candidate must have strong communication, organizational and teamwork skills, ability to work independently, good attention to detail, proven problem-solving abilities and a can-do attitude. The successful candidate will interface with technical personnel (e.g., engineers, designers), project management and potentially the customer. The successful candidate will report to a Project Engineering Manager.
The successful candidate will be required to be familiar with relevant Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Engineering Department Procedure Instructions (EDPIs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Lead engineering programs as directed by Project Engineering Manager (Condition Reports (CRs), Condition Report Review Committee (CRRC) meetings, Conditions Adverse to Quality (CAQ), Self-Assessments, QA audits/surveillances, Closed-Loop Corrective Action (CLCA), Lessons Learned, Root Cause Analysis).
Develop/update project Engineering procedures/instructions to ensure alignment with Bechtel NS&E and corporate procedures, contract requirements, and applicable codes and standards. Develop and present training on procedures, miscellaneous policies, and instructions for Engineering personnel.
Review multi-engineering discipline deliverables to ensure cohesiveness, coordination, and overall quality products.
Identify, prepare, and report project Engineering quality metrics and associated trends to Bechtel Management and client personnel.
Communicate quality issues to the Engineering team in the form of positive feedback and lessons learned.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
Grade 25: AS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, from an accredited university, with 10 years of related experience; or BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, from an accredited university, with 6 years of related experience; or, MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, with 4 years of related experience; or in lieu of degree, 12 years engineering experience related to the position.
Grade 26: AS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, from an accredited university, with 13 years of related experience; or BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, from an accredited university, with 9 years of related experience; or, MS degree in Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, with 7 years of related experience; or in lieu of degree, 15 years engineering experience related to the position
Must be US Citizen.
Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Minimum Qualifications
Computer Skills: A strong aptitude for utilizing the computer to collect, organizes, and presents technical data through the use of relational databases.
Technical Skills: Analyze data within technical documents to identify relevant information and properly classify that information so that it can be sorted and readily retrieved for later analysis and use by project staff.
Analytical Skills: Possess the desire and ability to monitor large quantities of information and employ efficient extraction techniques in response to requests for information.
Communication Skills: As a member of an Engineering team, communicate with other data analysts, engineers, technical experts, and management.
Attention to Detail: Possess the ability to accurately identify and capture relevant technical details from within large documents and data sets.
Related supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
EIT / FE Certification (may be waived if the candidate has a PE license).
Current Professional Engineer’s (PE) license, or ability to obtain license within one year of hire.
Experience with the application of Systems Engineering processes and tools including requirements management.
Ability to conduct general training on various engineering topics, including procedures, instructions, and guidance.
Plans, coordinates and works independently with limited direction.
Experience with U.S. government contracts.
Experience with quality assurance programs (such as ISO-9000).
Technical and/or engineering work processes and techniques knowledge.
Knowledge of Codes and Standards pertinent to engineering.
