Our Azure Reliability SRE team, represents a deep investment in improving the availability, reliability, operations efficiency and release velocity of Azure services. We build solutions to ease the path to build, manage and operate large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems.

 

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a production-oriented discipline combining deep software engineering and systems skills. We take engineering-based approaches to solve operations problems. We are responsible for improving service availability, latency, scalability, performance, and efficiency. We have interest in behavior of distributed systems generally. We care deeply about software quality and how software is constructed and designed with a production oriented focus on monitoring, release processes, safe deployments, performance optimization, capacity management, crisis response, resiliency engineering and similar concerns beyond pure functionality which are relevant to improving reliability. Responsibilities

  • Define, shape and drive roadmap, create clarity to guide plans and drive success. Lead end-to-end planning, execution and reporting of team engagements and activities.
  • Demonstrate production technical subject matter expertise to turn data into insights that drive investments. Scope projects with defined outcomes, design solutions, and resolve issues. Be able to work in software, write software, and use software to achieve goals.
  • Drive team culture - learning, growth mindset, experimentation and customer obsession
  • Perform project management and cross-functional co-ordination to deliver results.
  • Effectively communicate strategy and goals and how they align to the team’s work.
  • Manage program schedules, identify potential threats to the schedule, and communicate & fix them.

Qualifications

We try not to have too many formal qualifications, since mindset and demonstrated ability are more important, but previous successful candidates have often had some or all of the following:-

  • Background in Computer Science equivalent to a B.Sc.
  • 5+ years of software development
  • 5+ years of experience as Technical Program Manager leading software delivery
  • 3+ years of technical architecture design experience with agile development process skills
  • Understanding of Cloud and distributed technologies - software construction to delivery to operations
  • Experience working and managing multiple stakeholders and building technical & business relationships
  • Decision-making and prioritization skills, conflict resolution, community building, and follow through.
  • Results driven.
  • Analytical skills with exceptional verbal and written communication.
