JOB PURPOSE

As a senior process research manager, you will join our Product Engineering Research Group within our Beauty and Personal Care Division at Unilever R&D Port Sunlight. This group plays a vital role in the development of products, providing underpinning formulation and processing expertise to Unilever’s rapidly growing Beauty and Personal Care business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and Development is vital to the growth of Unilever brands and the successful applicant will have access to a range of world class digitally-enabled laboratory and pilot plant facilities including the Materials Innovation Factory at the University of Liverpool and the on-site Advanced Manufacturing Centre.

Typical activities will include:

• Leading processing projects / work streams to creating novel formulation-led and process-led product innovations which meet consumer needs, and hence grow Unilever’s Hair, Oral and Deodorants businesses.

• Transferring novel product innovations from laboratory & pilot plant to Development colleagues and sometimes to factories.

• Building and exploiting an external network (academia, SMEs and large-scale partners) to bring new technologies to solve business problems or to build long-term capability.

• Line Managing a team of process engineers.

• Working with stakeholders to develop proposals and to flex and adapt priorities through the project life cycle.

You are a goal orientated process research manager who is passionate about creating processes for new products and with a track record of leading projects.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

• PhD/EngD in chemical engineering or equivalent by experience.

• A track record of project and team leadership in an industrial research environment leading to tangible delivery.

• Significant personal expertise in the processing of complex liquids &/or soft solids, and characterization of their micro structure.

• Enthusiasm and passion for process science is a must.

• An appreciation of – and ideally strong personal experience of – digital tools & modelling techniques to deliver process insights & predictions.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Proven ability to deliver through others.

• Experienced at using influencing skills to develop and guide projects to meet the demands of multiple stakeholders.

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money.

In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs.  These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
