Senior Principal Nutrition Scientist - Mars Pet
Location - Mars US sites (Tennessee preferred)
This role will provide critical support to the Mars Pet Nutrition business by applying technical mastery of pet nutrition and scientific claims across the business. This role will lead scientific substantiation of claims and nutritional compliance for the North American business. This role helps ensure our products are supported by the most current and accurate science to maintain and grow the competitive market position. This role will also lead a small team of direct reports.
What are we looking for?
Masters (PH.D preferred) in Nutrition, biochemistry, biological science or food science.
8 years of experience in health and nutrition (preferred animal health) with demonstrated ability to manage Research Programs.
Demonstrated ability to manage research programs.
Experience working with trade associations and government agencies.
Strong understanding of scientific affairs of pet or human food products.
Strong knowledge of nutrition and food regulatory. Able to work across functions and with external partners to achieve shared goals.
Effective communication and influential skills.
What would your Key Responsibilities be?
This position creates and leads aligned scientific messaging and represents Pet Nutrition in key external organizations to help drive scientifically based regulatory environment and deliver the overall business goals. This role will provide review and analysis of key competitor’s products and claims, including oversight for managing any potential competitive challenges that the business might pursue.
Enjoy building cross functional partnerships? This role will partner with a diverse group of functional teams such as Product Development, Marketing, Quality and Food Safety, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Legal and R&D Scientists.
LEADERSHIP and EXPERTISE
Provides strategic advice, solutions and technical expertise to regional SRA teams, R&D, and regional guidelines and Regional Policy Group policies and ensures governance and compliance to these and other Mars policies.
Keeps current of key developments in health and nutrition via literature reviews, meeting attendance, and leadership in trade association activities so that potential impact to the business can be evaluated and addressed
Mentors and provides leadership to associates in the North America region to enable them to effectively manage pet health, nutrition, claims activities.
HEALTH AND NUTRITION
Develops and communicates science-based information and positions and provides scientific guidance to key internal stakeholders on pet health, ingredients, nutrition, claims, and emerging scientific and regulatory issues of interest to Pet Nutrition.
Leads the management of scientific issues for Pet Nutrition. Strongly connected with other Mars businesses and corporate teams, the role ensures that current issue/risks and opportunities are appropriately communicated to relevant leaders to help guide the business.
Develops and maintains strong scientific networks and works with other Mars segments including the Waltham Petcare Science Institute to establish science policy and influence scientific opinions, external scientific environment and key opinion leaders that benefit and further the company’s innovation and growth strategies.
