OVERVIEW of Role

You care deeply about making sure the API and other headless interfaces are intuitive, functional, usable, and offer a positive experience for the DevOps engineers and SREs. You're comfortable working directly with DevOps consumers and are proud to take on the "voice of the consumer" when helping the team make decisions about the look and feel of the API. Finally, you ensure the overall design matches established company-wide style guidelines and are confident in make recommendations on how to improve things iteratively based on research. You are independently motivated, and always learning; reading industry books, keeping up with talks, blogs, and social media to remain up to date on new tech and best practices.

• Ensure that the experience of our Dell DevOps and SRE customers are delightful and aligned with their mental model.
• You will influence the design of the APIs and set up measurements for success, test and validate.
• You will organize information using the proper information architecture
• Contribute to product requirements as needed in support of DevOps consumers
• Work with the Developer Experience team on the API Developer Portal, and with the Experience Design team to ensure the APIs are aligned with the user’s mental model and finally with Engineering team to ensure that they follow the API coding style guide
• Design and measure the success of the developer experience for APIs where the customers are DevOps Engineers and SREs.
• Conduct, facilitate, and advocate for API related user research, design workshops, and usability testing.
• Serve as a bridge between design, development, and documentation teams.
• Collaborate with product management to validate desired functionality.
• Leverage user data and research, both quantitative and qualitative, to make decisions and (surveys, usability tests, feedback from support).
• Evangelize the value of DevOps design and establish guidelines, procedures and processes as needed.
• See the world and our products through the eyes of our users and designing to meet their mental models.
• The position requires an understanding and appreciation of API patterns and consistency standards.

Essential Requirements

• You are a technology designer, passionate about optimizing DevOps interfaces for comprehension, ease of use, readability and intuitiveness
• You have experience designing and building APIs in other companies that have seen a significant growth and scale and have the ability to write enough code to be able to test APIs
• You have strong written, verbal, and presentation skills that help you speak with business and technical customers
• You understand not only today’s use cases but also future use cases for the API; you are able to design interfaces that have “runway” i.e. evolve naturally to accommodate future use cases

Desirable Requirements

• 5+ years experience in a product role in a company that produces mission-critical infrastructure
• Masters in Human Factors / HCI / or similar, bachelor's degree in computer science or similar
• Background in Cloud or aaS
