You will be expected to deliver a range of strategic planning responsibilities to support our clients’ individual requirements.

What you will be doing:

  • You will provide high quality professional advise and direction on planning policy matters as required by the client, which may include identifying gaps in evidence, translating evidence into clear and concise policy or providing supporting information at the Local Plan Examination stage.

  • Supporting consultation and engagement activities, to include coordination and review of public consultation representations.

  • Ability to integrate and work successfully as part of a team as well as manage own workload effectively and efficiently.

  • You will also be accountable for the successful delivery of planning policy commissions ensuring they are delivered in line with bid expectations to a consistently high standard, reporting regularly to the Planning Policy Manger on progress and key milestones.

  • Supporting the growth of the team and working to make a positive contribution towards business development as required.

  • You will also support the Planning Policy Manger when required to report on necessary financial and operational reporting, including forecasts on commissions that you are working on.

  • Ensure project and team objectives are met and knowledge and expertise are shared effectively across the team.

  • Contribute positively to bids and proposals as required in a timely manner to support the wider team and help secure future opportunities within the growth team.

  • Provide guidance and support for more junior members of the team.

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree qualified Town Planner or equivalent experience (essential). Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute desirable but not essential.

  • Demonstrable experience and proven track record in the successful delivery of planning policy services and a sound understanding of local government and planning (essential).

  • A good level of knowledge, understanding and application of current and emerging planning legislation (essential).

  • Practical experience in dealing with planning matters across a number of different local authorities with demonstrable experience of producing planning policy documents.

  • Experience of community engagement on planning policies and strategies, understanding the concerns raised and proposing clear and concise responses.

  • A good breadth of experience across more specialist topics such as urban design or minerals and waste (desirable).

  • Be concise and possess the ability to communicate at all levels, be well organised and efficient, have a positive attitude, be proactive and solve problems to produce well balanced outcomes.

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to work alone on projects where required as well as contributing and adding value to team projects.
