The purpose of this role is to assist the Processing Dairy Manager in optimising the profitability of the Leckford Estate Dairy (through the efficient use of all resources and ensuring that all products meet the volume and quality requirements of our customers), in enhancing the Waitrose Brand and the reputation of the business whilst driving Partner experience.

What will you be doing as a Processing Dairy Senior Operative?

  • Fulfilling an operative role within the Processing & Packing functions of the Dairy when required.

  • Supervising the daily activities of the Processing & Packing teams and recording of KPI data.

  • Ensuring the teams’ adherence to the Dairy\'s operating procedures and industry best practice, so that the required quality and hygiene standards are achieved (as specified by legal and WR Food Technology specifications).

  • Assisting the Processing Dairy Manager in the development of the Processing Dairy Partners in such a way as to ensure a flexible, responsible and highly effective team that exhibits a high-performance culture and that is able to consistently achieve production, quality and hygiene targets.

  • Assisting the Processing Dairy Manager in the management of the Dairy’s mechanical assets by taking an active role in the implementation of the Planned Preventive Maintenance Program and organising repairs when required.

  • Contributing to the strategic development of the Dairy to optimise performance and ensure it is recognised as an exemplar of excellence within the industry.

  • Ensuring that the health and safety of all Partners and non-Partners (including suppliers, contractors and visitors) are maintained through a proactive approach utilising appropriate procedures and safe working practices.

  • Deputising for the Manager in his absence

  • Participating and assisting in democratic and other activities outside the Processing Dairy, within the wider Estate and Waitrose as appropriate to a co-owner in the John Lewis Partnership.

  • Liaison, where necessary, with Waitrose Food Technologists and Buyers

  • Manage self and professional development

  • Embrace and promote change and continuous improvement

  • Working flexibility across the wider estate in the interest of commercial success – One team ethos.

What you\'ll have

  • Food Hygiene Certificate

  • HACCP training

  • Full driving licence

  • A minimum of 3 years operational experience in milk processing and packing

  • Supervisory/management experience in a small team environment

  • HACCP

What else you can bring

  • Level 3 NVQ in science/engineering

  • Safe forklift operation

  • Food quality assurance testing

  • Experience of dairy processing activities other than liquid milk products
