This is a part-time only role (0.5 FTE).
The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trustâ€. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.
One of the most important aspects of the FSA’s work is the delivery of official feed and food controls (OFFC) across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. These controls are in place to ensure that businesses in the food industry are meeting the expectations of the law - and thereby keeping the food on Britain’s tables safe, and making sure it is exactly what it says it is.
Our feed and food controls are carried out on behalf of the FSA by local authorities across the length and breadth of the country. This allows the Agency to exercise absolute coverage right down to a very local level - but it also means that any one local authority will perform slightly differently from any other. To ensure a uniformity in the service that the Agency provides through these checks, and in doing so further cement the trust that the British public have in their food, it’s important that the Agency monitors the performances of those delivering feed and food controls, and works to help any area that can be improved.
The Agency has openings for a Senior OFFC Performance Manager, whose work will provide a vital step in providing this service, and ensuring that food in Britain meets the nation’s exacting standards.
At the very centre of these roles is a need for communication and collaboration, as you will seek to build strong and constructive relationships with those authorities that carry out the official controls, as well as the various FSA teams that work to support them.
As well as contributing to the collection and collation of data gathered from delivery partners, you will work to identify performance issues from this data, present realistic solutions to senior managers and directors within the FSA and work alongside various stakeholders to help drive improvement.
If you are enthused by the opportunity to make a difference to the wellbeing of the nation, utilising your skills to identify issues and deliver solutions for the benefit of all, do not hesitate to apply for this exciting, collaborative role at the heart of the FSA’s official controls.
