About the Team

This role is part of the Systems and Tools team, under Insight and Performance directorate with Network Strategy and Evolution. Systems and Tools are responsible for defining and delivering the operational support systems which play a vital part of operations. Within the Network Management Systems (NMS) team, designer lead on delivering new and evolving NMS, operational teams lead on insuring these are available for our customers can use these when they need them and security designers ensure that security considerations gets the focus they require.

About the role

Reporting to the NMS Support Manager, this role is part of the NMS Operational Support team. It provides leadership to carry out vital support roles to manage the continual development and improvement of our tools, systems, and skills.

The role drives proactive management of systems and vendors to ensure these are fit for purpose and efficient and to manage reactive, include emergency, situations when they arise.

The NMS landscape continues to evolve to underpin the plans of node teams and currently consists of:

  • Ericsson RAN, Transport Voice & Packet Cores OSS-RC/ENM
  • Ericsson SO.EM
  • Huawei NCE
  • Ciena MCP
  • SIAE NMS5
  • Nokia RAN and Core NetAct
  • Nokia SAM (IUB)
  • Juniper Junos Space

The role provides management support including matrix and supplier management of vendors and 3rd parties supporting our systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operationally responsible for Network Management Systems and associated business processes to ensure the best customer experience.
  • Lead for the NMS Support team at vendor operational review meetings with Vendors to drive resolution of issue with RCAs and improvements where needed.
  • Team-focused with a focus for clear communication, you’ll be a tenacious problem solver who’s always up to date with the latest developments. You’re also used to leading on a range of hands-on NMS system administration, projects deliverables including operational acceptance criteria, design reviews, security management and associated security compliance, network, and managed service issues, using extensive technical expertise.
  • Maintain an advanced level of knowledge on defined Network Management Systems and align with security guidance and governance of security access controls.
  • Provide management support including matrix and supplier management of vendors and 3rd parties supporting our systems. Use proportionate escalation to drive surrounding teams to provide the level of service required by our customers.
  • Manage sensitive contractual and other information to ensure 3rd parties have access to required information while operating within existing NDA’s
  • Governance of Network Management Systems to ensure alignment with security guidance.
  • Provide input to network design and security teams to drive resolution of design related issues.
  • Provide visibility of delivery plans and results to both internal and external business partners.

What We Need from You:

Essential Skills:

  • You will have a good working knowledge of mobile networks, the mobile communications marketplace, and the ability to deal with constantly changing and evolving targets.
  • You’ll have good NMS administration experience.
  • You will have the ability to absorb and understand new technologies and network changes without formal training as a precursor and use a logical approach to problem solving.
  • Must be confident working under own initiative, whilst being supportive of team aims and objectives and be able to work under periods of high pressure
  • Good people management skills and ability to motivate, communicate and lead performance improvement.
  • Experience of Change, Incident, Problem and Risk Management.
  • Project management awareness for implementation of fixes to systems.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work extended and unsociable hours, travel between key O2 Sites.
