As a part of this team, you will join a passionate group of developers, product managers, and designers that love to focus on the details and think big. You will lead mission critical projects that impact engagement, subscriptions, and ad revenue. You will work closely with our core content teams in order to find, search, classify, and deliver content to iOS and Android devices. You will be part of a culture of high quality engineering practices, continuous learning, and collaboration. As a part of this team, you will cultivate deep expertise in the mobile challenges of today and seek to deliver quickly and often.

We are looking especially for technical engineers that can crawl through all parts of the stack: from platform native, to React Native, to GraphQL, to Java in our backend. We deal with low connectivity networks, user privacy, and serving different media types. Experience in core algorithms, data structures, and software engineer practices is a must. Experience in debugging and tuning UI performance is a plus. 

A successful candidate will:

•  Build, test, and iterate on new methods of storytelling

•  Understand large scale distributed systems, performance, security, and privacy
•  Collaborate within an Agile, multi-disciplinary, fast moving team
•  Be passionate about app performance (speed, memory, battery usage) and user satisfaction

(we're aiming for 5 stars, minimizing bugs and crashes, and improving UX)

You’ll need to have:

•  3+ years of professional experience in software development
•  1+ years of experience building mobile applications (iOS or Android)
•  Experience with JavaScript (ES6), CSS, and HTML
•  React native and/or iOS skills are preferred
•  A deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
•  BA, BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related technology field

We’d love to see:

•  An interest in understanding user behavior using A/B tests and analytics and how that drives product design and decisions
•  Experience with React Native, JSX, TypeScript/Flow, Jest, and/or Redux
•  Experience with a variety of iOS or Android frameworks
•  Expert understanding of app analytics, debugging and monitoring tools, multithreading, networking, and push notifications
•  Contributions to open source projects
