Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. GBSD is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman GBSD nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.

Position Summary:
This position is for a Mechanical Engineer who will prepare designs for mechanical systems associated with DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
Responsibilities:
This role will support design development of Mechanical systems and equipment for the GBSD program by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Work with mechanical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment.
Develop Design Drawings
Perform formal calculations
Size equipment and systems
Develop equipment and material specifications
Develop procurement documentation
Develop design configuration packages for configuration control and change management
Design Building Information Modeling and coordination with other disciplines
Review vendor submittals and integrate information into the design solution
Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product
Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team
Travel up to 50% to customer and project locations to coordinate mechanical designs with team.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications:
Level 1: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 6 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building mechanical systems.
Level 2: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 9 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building mechanical systems.
US citizenship is required per contract requirement.
Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.
Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Mechanical or related Engineering).
Ability to execute work independently and greater than 1 year of Bechtel service for consideration of working at other than designated location.
Preferred Qualifications:
Related experience in drawing development for design of fluid systems, hydraulics, heat transfer, HVAC, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification.
Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
Experience executing engineering and design with Revit.
Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
