The Senior Manager of US Oncology Forecasting is a dynamic member of BMS’ Commercial Performance & Forecasting team that partners very closely with Commercial, Finance and Market Research teams. He/she will be responsible for working with their support resources to complete the standard BMS Business Insight & Analytics deliverables, as well as delivering high quality solutions and answers to ad hoc requests/questions. The Senior Manager serves as an internal consultant to senior leadership by providing analytic guidance and helping Brand teams (and extended stakeholders) make informed strategic decisions and choices.
This is a unique role within BMS US Oncology, and the individual will be responsible for forecasting activities related to Immuno-Oncology portfolio. He/she will help to identify and contextualize critical business issues, and work to embed an objective and unbiased point of view into the business conversation. He/she will need to partner effectively with other functions (Market Research, Finance, Marketing, Medical, etc.) to identify logical and defendable forecast assumptions, and support the strategic decision-making process.
Additional Responsibilities:
Accountable for generating, presenting, defending, and maintaining short-term (3 year) range-based forecasts for assigned therapeutic area(s) with a high degree of precision and insight
Identify, gather, and rigorously analyze information to generate a deeper understanding of diseases, markets, and competitive environments
Develop and deliver clear, concise presentations that synthesize disparate data (market research, secondary data, etc.), and that demonstrate a deep understanding of the market dynamics, competition, and brand
Provide an unbiased point of view on the performance of markets/brands, supported by facts and evidence
Provide context for decisions, both disease area and portfolio context, to help teams understand how decisions will be perceived by senior management / late-stage portfolio committees
Proactively and continuously assess the relevant marketplace and its dynamics, customers, and competitors
Assist international markets on forecast assumptions and share US learnings
For brands that are co-promoted, working with the partner company may be required
Lead the synthesis of data from multiple primary and secondary data sources (IQVIA DDD, Xponent, APLD, NSP, IntrinsiQ, BrandImpact, SHS, Claims, Patient chart data, etc) to extract meaningful business insights and to inform forecast assumptions as well as marketing strategies. When required, become involved in the design and development of market research forecast studies (i.e. demand research)
Collaborate extensively with matrix partners (Data Analytics, Market Research, Competitive Intelligence, etc.) to identify logical and unbiased insights, and provide a unified view of the business
Consistently provide end-to-end support to answer internal commercial business unit questions regarding brand performance, marketplace activity, competitor product activity, or other pharmaceutical market changes in support of decision-making for the U.S. commercial organization
Execute core forecasting activities by overseeing the development, maintenance, and execution of advanced MS Excel-based oncology
Actively oversee analytics operations to correct discrepancies and ensure quality.
Manage forecasting trending exercises by utilizing Forecast software/add-ins such as Forecast Pro.
Lead, manage and mentor support resources
Support and coordinate the ad-hoc business-critical activities such as BD assessments, Earnings Prep documents, senior leaders on-boarding materials etc.
Requirements:
3+ years of Biotech or Pharma experience in Forecasting and/or Analytics
BA required, Masters or PhD preferred
Strong grasp of an individual analytical discipline, such as forecasting, market research, or marketing science, with a good general knowledge of the others
Extensive knowledge and use of both primary research and secondary data
Ability to influence senior leaders on critical decisions
Detailed understanding and mastery of patient level data (e.g., EMR, chart audits, claims, etc), and ability to work closely with agencies and partners to ensure high quality deliverables
Ability to connect analytics with the overarching business questions, and understand the link between brand strategy and analytic insights
Manage ambiguity by questioning data and/or stakeholder for further nuanced information.
Ability to operate on less than perfect data, by having a sound logical framework.
Can develop new ways of thinking about a problem, in order to provide an effective solution
Can defend a position when necessary, particularly around forecast assumptions, and is persuasive in negotiations (especially as it relates to senior management)
Knowledgeable of managed care, and how it may affect a brand forecast
Demonstrate a continuous commitment to the QC process to ensure quality of deliverables meets or exceeds the forecasting teams’ standards
Experience conducting or managing primary market research and/or developing and using Excel-based forecast models
Experience in oncology is preferred
