Job Description
Core Responsibilities:
- Build biochemical processing capabilities in the Process Technology group to support next generation of innovative ingredients for the food & beverage industry
- Lead all activities related to execution of projects supporting Ingredion Growth Platforms
- Develop and execute the strategic plan for the team to meet business needs
- Perform financial evaluation and quantify probability of success of early-stage technologies to ensure projects generate value for the organization
- Develop and support innovation function practices that enhance group efficiency
- Lead a Process Technology team to deliver on project milestones and advise teams on technical elements related to process scale-up
- Provide financial and strategic justification for capital investments for new technology commercialization
- Develop and deliver on annual technical goals for the team based on the needs of the business
- Identify new process technologies and third-party research partners that may be relevant for Ingredion
- Anticipate competitive business threats based on published literature on active research programs (e.g. patent filings)
- Support development of Ingredion’s long-term strategic research agenda
- Support the generation and protection of Ingredion’s intellectual property
- Manage and coach a Process Technology team in excellence in safety behavior, goal setting, development plans, performance appraisals, training, and engagement with business deliverables
- Develop strong relationships with global and regional R&D, Go-To-Market (GTM), and Manufacturing networks within Ingredion
- Effectively interact with R&D, GTM and Manufacturing leadership teams through written and oral communications to drive the growth and effectiveness of the group
- Drive the team to collaborate with colleagues to make significant contribution to deliver goals and execute project plans
Qualified candidates will have:
- Bachelor/Master of Science with 15+ years relevant experience or PhD with 10+ years relevant experience in Biochemical or Food Engineering.
- Expertise with bioreactor/fermenter design, scale-up and operation, downstream purification processes (e.g. chromatography, membrane filtration, ion exchange, centrifugation, etc.) and technoeconomic modeling of bioconversion processes is highly desired
- Experience in the management of research professionals (engineers, chemists, etc.)
- Expertise in the food processing, pharmaceutical, or nutraceutical industry with emphasis on scale-up from pilot to manufacturing
- Knowledge of basic statistics, measurement system assessment and six-sigma principles
- Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills. Must be able to convey information in a clear, focused and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work with leadership of business units, R&D, Technical Service, Manufacturing, and Regulatory groups to drive delivery on projects
- Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
