The Senior Category Manager, Packaging & Devices position will be responsible for BMS sourcing efforts in the scope of packaging materials across the internal BMS Operations Network (Biologics, Pharma and Cell Therapy). The Senior Category Manager will partner closely with the Global Procurement Matrix Procurement teams (Product Development, Site Procurement, Supplier Performance and Development, External manufacturing, etc.) to ensure alignment across all areas of Packaging. Key responsibilities focus around leading savings or optimization opportunity assessments, risk mitigation plans, second source prioritization and coordination efforts, platform alignment and implementation, and guiding and directing the strategies across the category manager and site procurement team network to help ensure implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and management of clear and comprehensive Packaging Materials category strategies.

  • Work in conjunction with Product Development, Site Procurement colleagues, to develop risk assessment, standard platform strategy, and enable improved speed and supply delivery and responsiveness to the clinical supply network.

  • Act as key point of contact for specific supply integrators, distributors, and/or suppliers as it pertains to responsible categories of goods and in alignment with the overall Packaging Materials category.

  • Integrate and drive a category governance process to insure alignment, engagement, and support of the Packaging strategy evolution and execution with key business partners and GP network.

  • Enable a change management process for materials development standard platform once it is created as part of the Packaging category governance.

  • Support navigation of governance around materials sourcing and selections as it pertains to pipeline advancement, and ensure commercially-viable sources advance to late-stage pipeline product processes.

  • Provide strategic direction to department for the development of high-impact e-sourcing templates and deliverables to reduce bid launch-to-award cycle times utilizing support from the Sourcing Excellence group.

  • Regularly meet with stakeholders to discuss requirements, expectations, monitor supplier service level and priorities.  Drive continuous improvements in all aspects.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. degree in science or engineering is required. M.S., M.B.A., M.A., or equivalent master’s degree in science, business administration, operations management, engineering, finance is highly preferred.

  • Minimum 6-8 years of relevant demonstrated experience in supplier management, packaging engineering, devices, direct materials procurement or technical operations is highly preferred. 

  • Experience with people leadership preferred.

  • Knowledge and proficiency with SAP and/or Ariba system is preferred.
