Purpose and Scope of Position

The Sr. Manager, Maintenance is responsible for managing the Supervisors, Maintenance and  ensuring the optimum operation of facility and production equipment including repairs, troubleshooting, and new installations.  In addition, the Sr. Manager will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on maintenance equipment and processes. The Sr. Manager, Maintenance will support all maintenance efforts throughout the site including ongoing support of manufacturing maintenance, continuous improvement, documentation, preventative and predictive maintenance, on demand repairs, troubleshooting, and internal/external audit participation/response/corrective action. The Sr. Manager, Maintenance will demonstrate strong leadership, team building, developing, and mentoring skills.

Required Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge in team building and strong leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of maintenance shop tools: (e.g., drills, band saw, presses, and precision measuring devices).
  • Advanced knowledge of plant utility systems including high pressure steam, heating, water systems generation and distribution, ventilating and air conditioning.
  • Advanced knowledge of power transfer technology including mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of machine controls including programmable logic controllers, relay logic, and operator interfaces.
  • Advanced knowledge of cGMP, OSHA, and ADEQ regulations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of managerial accounting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of metal work including machining and welding.
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods of time.
  • Requires flexibility and the ability to multi-task.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Requires ability to solve routine and complex maintenance issues.
  • Requires the ability to empower individuals to exceed company goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Coordinates and manages preventative, predictive, and on demand maintenance on a wide variety of industrial equipment to ensure reliability and equipment optimization.
  • Conducts inspection and repairs of manufacturing equipment in accordance with cGMP requirements.
  • Responsible for developing relationships with key vendors for technical support and for assistance in hardware applications.
  • Supports all maintenance efforts including continuous improvement, documentation, preventative and predictive maintenance, on demand repairs, troubleshooting, internal/external audit support, and new installations.
  • Supports the optimization of equipment within a sterile injectable global biopharmaceutical environment while adhering to strict regulations.
  • Develop a maintenance budget that supports the needs of the site.  Be accountable for variances.  Provides Director with monthly updates. Evaluate new equipment and other capital expenditures and submit purchasing recommendations.
  • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills to the immediate manager and internal customers.
  • Executes document revisions and enterprise quality resource management system assignments.
  • Conducts formal equipment evaluations.
  • Ensures quality completed executions of work orders within the allotted time frame.
  • Documents all repairs, evaluations, revisions, and quality metrics electronically in a clear concise manner free of errors.
  • Performs lock out/tag out of industrial equipment.
  • Oversees/supervises confined space entry.
  • Coordinates repairs on equipment that is not functioning properly.
  • Supports manufacturing equipment maintenance throughout the site.
  • Develops and follows strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to ensure quality, compliant maintenance activities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Must have a clear understanding of analytical troubleshooting.
  • Provides on the job training.
  • Provides instructor led training.
  • The incumbent will train and become certified to Arc Flash.
  • Participates in employment interviews.
  • Conducts department communication meetings.
  • Demonstrates electromechanical aptitude and computer literacy that supports the on time completion of assigned maintenance tasks throughout the site.
  • Supports the optimization of equipment within a sterile injectable global biopharmaceutical environment while adhering to strict regulations.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in an Engineering discipline.
  • 9 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment.
  • 5 years of leadership experience with direct reports required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may substitute.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent will be required to kneel, climb, bend, push, pull, reach, balance, and/or lift greater than 20 lbs. for 2 hours, approximately 5 times per week.
  • The incumbent will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as,
    but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, and face shields.
  • The incumbent will be required to stand for extended periods of time, up to 6 hours per day.
  • The incumbent will be required to crawl through small spaces 3 or 4 times per month.
  • The incumbent often works for extended periods alone, up to 8 hours per shift.
  • The incumbent must analyze complex numerical values on a daily basis.
  • The incumbent must communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • The incumbent’s environment may be greasy, and the workspace may be constricted.
  • The incumbent’s environment may have excessive noise.
