Amazon is seeking a Senior Manager to join our International Indirect Tax Compliance Technology team.
Amazon’s vision is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Originally known as an online bookseller, Amazon has dramatically expanded its range over the years both in terms of the products and services it sells and how and where it sells them. By the end of 2020, the growth of our international business (countries outside the USA) combined with increasingly complex tax legislation resulted in 2,000 plus indirect tax registrations in 75 countries making over 35,000 indirect tax-related filings each year. These filings are primarily the responsibility of International Indirect Tax Compliance & Controllership (ITX Compliance), a dedicated team of approximately 100 tax professionals within the Amazon Tax department.
Technology solutions are needed to help meet the challenge of indirect tax compliance: to help us scale and manage the ongoing increases in workload and complexity we anticipate in the future, and to address existing tech debt arising from the past.
An experienced indirect tax technology manager is sought to help us address this challenge within ITX Compliance. The role will be responsible for driving the enhancement and adaptation of existing systems and processes, identifying and articulating tech needs, and developing and implementing the tax technology solutions. You do not need to be able to “build†the tech, although an appreciation of how this is done is helpful. Rather you need to understand how tech can be used to improve processes, enable scale and eliminate inefficiency. Ideally your experience will mean you will have one foot firmly planted in indirect tax and the other in the systems and tech solutions space. You will need the ability to Think Big and develop a long-term strategy, have a strong Bias for Action and the ability to Deliver Results by executing that vision and driving solutions over the line to implementation. You will need to thrive in highly complex distributed system environments, have excellent organisational and project management skills, and strong communication skills in order to convey your vision and sometimes exert influence without authority. The role also requires exceptional people skills to work alongside/manage a small band of tech specialists within ITX Compliance Tech, work closely with the wider ITX Compliance team and partner with tech colleagues in other teams.
The role can be located in the USA (Seattle, WA or Arlington, VA), India (Bangalore) or Europe (Manchester or London in the UK, Luxembourg or Slovakia).

All offers are conditional on references, verification of the right to work in the UK, and successful background screening check. This will include previous employment verification, qualification verification (if relevant) and a relevant criminal check.
