• Group wide ownership of matters related to environmental tax (incl. environmental levies, duties, fees etc.)
• Own the relationship with key stakeholders relevant to this area such as internal environmental & sustainability teams, Product Safety & Compliance, Business Service Operations (BSO), facilities teams, Strategy & Transformation etc.
• Design processes for mandatory reporting & compliance requirements to be performed by BSO & external outsourcing partner, for example, Extended Producer Responsibility, Plastic Packaging Tax
• Ownership and coordination of group-wide sustainability & environmental initiatives, provide subject matter input on a global level
• Act as first point of contact for environmental tax related queries as part of projects & day-to-day advisory work and to ensure compliant operations of the LEGO Group
• Prepare and provide regular updates on developments & impacts for the LEGO Group on this subject to Group CFO departments and various committees
• Monitor legislative changes and new proposals in close connection with Tax Policy & Controversy, support advocacy proposals e.g., on EU Commission level
Global Strategic Tax & Customs (GSTC) is overall accountable for taxes across the LEGO Group, including Customs and Export Control as well as environmental tax. Within this global function there are 5 sub-departments: Business Advisory, Tax Policy & Controversy, Performance & Projects, Tax Governance and Planning & Structuring. In GSTC we have the ambition to be a strong partner to our stakeholders across the LEGO Group and to work towards our sustainability goals, which lead us to create this new role in our organization.
The Senior Manager Environmental Tax will report to the Director of Planning & Structuring, a team that mainly focus on strategic and global initiatives and combines expert knowledge in all relevant tax technical disciplines. To set this new role up for success, the Senior Manager Environmental Tax will be able to work with a support network across GSTC and colleagues from our Business Service Operations team (BSO) as well as outsourcing partners.
We are looking for a candidate who is an awesome team player and has great stakeholder management and collaboration skills and is used to working across different teams and regions.
In addition, we expect that you have:
• Background in environmental taxation or indirect tax background and a good understanding of indirect tax mechanisms, for example related to movement of goods, manufacturing, compliance reporting, legislative process/structure etc.
• Ability to translate (complex/new) legislation into concrete actions ensuring continuous compliance
• Curiosity around technology and how it can improve ways of working & compliance, preferable knowledge and working experience in reporting and compliance related software solutions
• Professional Services advisory background or in-house experience, ideally in environmental related industries or in the energy sector
• University degree or its equivalent preferably in Business or Law and/or have Certified Accounting or Tax qualifications.
You are adaptable, solution-oriented, well-organized, and analytical. You are confident in building and maintaining partnerships with external advisors and business service centers with integrity. You are highly motivated with a can-do attitude and willing to learn and operate independently. You are a great listener and are confident in communicating results and recommendations.
