You will:

• Provide counsel and legal support on a variety of legal matters, or in a specialist area, including matters that may be complex or may have some impact;
  
• Drive legal aspects of M&A projects for HSBC UK, including transaction structure, legal due diligence, bidder process, deal negotiation, contract drafting, regulatory compliance and transaction management;
  
• To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner to HSBC UK;
  
• Provide support and guidance to HSBC UK with regard to legal risks arising in jobholder’s area of expertise;
  
• To be a guardian of HSBC’s reputation, values and brand through appropriate legal and commercial guidance and the escalation of matters that create potential for undue reputational, legal or commercial risk.
  

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be / have:

• A qualified lawyer with demonstrable mergers and acquisitions experience gained within a financial institution and/or private practice is essential;
  
• The ability to handle a diverse range of issues and pick up ad hoc projects as needed is essential;
  
• Knowledge and experience of banking and corporate law is highly desirable;
  
• UK regulatory experience in one of these fields is also an advantage;
  
• Ability to prioritise – a self-starter, able to operate independently with good organisational skills is essential;
  
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills is essential;
  
• Experience of providing prompt and practical legal guidance, dealing with ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for the outcomes such as potential long term risks and implications.
  

The base location for the role is 1 Centenary Square, Birmingham or 8 CS London. Hybrid working applies.
