We are seeking a highly motivated, business minded, independent, and agile lawyer with a track record of having a creative and holistic approach to be a critical partner to the North American Operating Unit (“NAOU”).  This position will provide legal support and advice to this fast paced and aggressive business on a broad array of advertising and marketing initiatives designed to enable brand growth.  

What You’ll Do for Us 

• Serve as a trusted advisor and business partner by providing proactive, business-oriented, and creative strategic and tactical legal counseling to help the business make informed, risk-based decisions to drive the Company’s vision and NAOU’s overall business priorities 

• Lead the legal support for specific brands on a variety of day-to-day marketing legal matters including promotions and sponsorships, digital campaigns, basic privacy guardrails (collecting identifiable data), contract negotiation and drafting, social media best practices, consumer and product testing strategies, e-commerce, etc.  

• Support the review and approval of all types of marketing materials across all media channels  

• Use an expertise in advertising law and claim substantiation to evaluate desired product/ingredient positioning, claims, and messaging through a consumer protection lens and for the strength of substantiation to identify potential legal and regulatory risks and present such risks in a clear and thoughtful manner to senior management 

• Play a key role in cross-functional innovation projects, new product launches and product and ingredient development to identify legal and regulatory hurdles that need to be considered or overcome to mitigate risk 

Qualifications & Requirements 

• J.D. from an accredited law school 

• License to practice law (Good Standing)  

• 7-10 years of experience in a top tier law firm and/or, in-house  

• Subject matter expert in marketing or advertising law 

• Proven knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local consumer protection laws and regulations 

• In-house experience preferred or experience in communicating legal strategies, advice, and risk of actions directly to business clients â€“non-lawyers
