Cost and time-effective diagnostics are a key element to ensuring that individuals, companies and governments are informed and can respond rapidly to protect lives and health.

Amazon has built incremental lab capacity, and implemented diagnostic testing for employees, performing over 1 million Covid-19 tests in the past 12 months in the Manchester based facility. While we are continuing to protect our staff from Covid-19, we are looking to expand testing capabilities into new and novel areas, and are seeking a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer / New Product Introduction Engineer that can support us in this mission.

Key Responsibilities
This role is part of an engineering team that develops and supports products, systems and processes to plan, develop, manufacture, launch and support devices as efficiently as possible. The role works in parallel with other mechanical engineers and software-focused engineers and maintenance technicians as part of a cross-functional team running operations. You will:

· Demonstrate customer obsession, working closely with external functions to interpret requirements into specifications; support sourcing, deliver installation, commissioning and validation of new equipment, earning trust all the way
· Ensure compliance with supporting health and safety and quality requirements
· Collaborate with equipment suppliers to provide optimised solutions at the earliest time point
· Learn and be curious by being able to own both the hardware and software elements of current and new product introduction (NPI)
· Deliver related process documentation; flow, layout, SOPs, maintenance plans etc.
· Define process limits; capacity planning, related KPIs etc.
· Deliver continuous improvement opportunities in line with capacity limitations
· Invent and simplify solutions to complex problems, using data and empirical evidence, by the application of methodical approaches, along with experience, innovation and judgement
· Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and be able to communicate recommended solutions to the NPI team, all the way up to executive leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related fields
· Proven experience of NPI delivery from innovation into production
· Proven experience in manufacturing/operations of devices
· Demonstrable continuous improvement skills and experience
· Proven experience of complex problem solving and associated methodology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience of regulated sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals or healthcare
· Formal CI/Lean qualifications
· Experience in Computer Science fundamentals: object-oriented design, data structures and algorithms, problem solving and complexity analysis
· Design for Manufacture experience
· Experience of NPI of facility as well as equipment
