Join us as a senior highways engineer for Capita RE Highways, a joint venture between Capita and London Borough of Barnet, where you'll play an important role shaping the future of our business. As the go-to technical representative for highways maintenance, you’ll play a key role on the Asset Management Team. You’ll design a portfolio of projects for the carriageway and footway network, drainage systems and road markings, including the innovative Network Recovery Programme (NRP). At all times, you’ll keep delivery within budget and help us achieve sustainable, cost-effective methods of maintenance.

We’ll support you to develop yourself and you’ll have access to our newly designed suite of enhanced training products, as well as other learning and development opportunities. We’re looking for the right person for this role, so we don’t mind where you’re located, as long as you’re able to travel into Barnet to attend on-site and client meetings when needed for various projects. What you’ll be doing:

• designing and supervising projects of varying complexity, preparing estimates, working drawings and contract documents.
• preparation and specification for tendering and implementation of highways maintenance contracts, as well as analysing and reporting on returned estimates and tender documents.
• developing and reviewing the service plan for public open space drainage, to contribute to the Area, Group and Directorate business plans.
• responding to emergency situations in line with service requirements and the Council's civil emergency planning arrangements.
• carrying out condition surveys and site surveys and preparing reports with recommendations.
• supporting enforcement action including providing advice and guidance, issuing formal letters, carrying out default action, recovery of costs, and supporting prosecution.
   

What we’re looking for:

• five years’ experience in Civil/Highway Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Transportation or equivalent.
• a degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Transportation or equivalent.
• experience in the delivery of drainage and/or flood risk management schemes, from pre-design to implementation and sign-off.
• experience of an asset management approach.
• detailed specialist knowledge of legislation, technical specifications, standards and codes of practice, and ongoing developments in highways drainage.
