The Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD”) to ensure that they effectively manage, as “Risk Owners”, the Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Senior Financial Crime (FC) Strategy & Framework Manager, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

The Compliance function at HSBC includes Chief Compliance Officers (CCOs) that have responsibility and accountability for the Compliance function in their region and/or global business. In addition to four Group Capability teams of Financial Crime, Regulatory Conduct, a Chief Operating Office and Assurance, which are responsible for ensuring consistent global delivery, policy, frameworks and standards-setting.

In this role, you will:

  • Have internal FC engagement (management of relevant committees, use of Engage, Speaker Licensing, internal events), external engagement (candidate dependent)
  • Be involved in learning initiatives (including vendor engagement on ad-hoc and specific projects, engagement with relevant Risk & Compliance Initiatives)
  • Have reporting capabilities (support FC reporting team with governance papers, oversight of GMLRO scorecard and strategic plan milestones)
  • Be involved in digital activities (in support of Group Head of Strategy and Framework (F&P) involvement in business strategy support)
  • Provide leadership and accurate / timely guidance to FC specialists in line with portfolio
  • Primary Strategy & Framework point of contact for any internal engagement activities and the oversight of relevant engagement committees
  • Provide content into relevant governance and executive reporting (including Management Information where required) to senior leadership
  • Input into the strategic plans globally and including converting strategic plans into operational objectives and monitoring completion of those objectives (reporting)
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Financial Crime Subject Matter Expertise
  • Knowledge of HSBC’s businesses, footprint, structure, compliance initiatives and digital strategy would be desired
  • Strong executive reporting and governance experience
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), inter-personal and influencing skills
  • Proactive, keen sense of initiative
  • Experience of dealing effectively with senior management and executives
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and problem solve in a dynamic environment
  • A background or strong understanding of external engagement (industry work), learning / training and digital initiatives is highly desirable
  • Ability to develop strategy and to deliver against it to time, quality, and budget
  • Strong analytical skills and translate analysis into strategic requirements
  • Ability to develop efficient and effective solutions to complex operational issues
  • Track record of supporting a team that delivers results aligned to long term business goals
  • Track record of resilience and confident challenge when in dealing with senior stakeholders to influence change without direct responsibility for resources or budget
  • Well organised with an ability to prioritise effectively
  • Experience of working within a matrixed environment
