We are currently recruiting for long term career professionals, with an initial assignment supporting Telecommunications projects across the UK. Bechtel has been selected as a Delivery Partner on a £4 Billion programme to bring high speed internet connectivity to communities. The core focus is to deploy next generation fibre infrastructure across the public sector, businesses, mobile operators, and homes. These projects are key to improving connectivity for millions of people and boosting economic productivity in the long-term.

Position Summary

The Senior ESH Specialist is to assist in matters relating to the safety, health and environmental performance for the safe delivery of £50-£300 million of construction works (civil and fibre) within a geographical area. The role holder would be a team player capable of adapting to an integrated team environment.

Typical Responsibilities

·               Managing a team of SHE Advisors and supporting to ensure objectives are met

·       Undertake ES&H site assurance visits / inspections to monitor Client Duties and that of our external Principal Contractors, Designers and others to fulfil their CDM duties

·       Provide professional ES&H advice, guidance, training and implement the customers ES&H strategy, engaging and supporting regional City Build Teams

·       Undertake ES&H audits/inspections, tracking trends and support the City Build Teams to mitigate risk

·       Support the contractor to develop contractor owned ES&H Improvement plans when intervention is required

·       Be an ambassador for ES&H and help everyone understand how they can champion ES&H as part of their role on the project

·       Champion the ongoing improvements of the customers ES&H Management Systems in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001, 45001, OHSAS 18001.

·     Supports the contractor with serious incident investigations, establish if lessons-learned are implemented, and strive to influence ES&H best practice across the various locations

·       Monitor changes in legislation and best practice to ensure continuing legal compliance and best practice in the UK 

·       Participate in the ES&H risk-review process, attend site team meetings and provide health and safety briefings to increase ES&H awareness and engagement

·     Drive and influence best practice, ES&H innovation, and continuous improvement

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

·       NEBOSH Diploma, (or equivalent) 10 years + experience in Telecommunications and/or Utility associated construction industry

·       IOSH Professional Membership

·       Understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations and their application during differing stages of design and construction

·       Understanding of Safe Location and Avoidance of Underground Services

·       NRSWA Supervisor Qualification

·       First Aid Basic Certificate

·       Full Driver’s License that is valid in the UK
