BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems (PDS) is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Senior Engineer, Advanced E-Motor and E- Drive Engineering at our Propulsion Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

As a Senior Engineer in advanced systems engineering team the individual will be leading the work in electric drive system design, development, testing and benchmarking. The role will provide opportunity to identify product engineering keyindicators, benchmark technologies in electric mobility and develop engineering solutions to enhance the existing product features and demonstrate future product features. Additionally, the individuals will get an opportunity to collaborate with competence centers for Electric Machines, Power electronics, Software and Driveline in developing future product vision and product demonstration ideas.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Passion for engineering with strong fundamentals in electrical and mechatronics engineering
  • Passion for electric mobility and automotive engineering
  • Self-driven attitude with curiosity towards engineering next generation propulsion systems
  • Must have strong fundamentals in electric vehicle drive components
    • Strong understanding of electric machine designs (ACIM, IPM, SRM, WFSM)
    • Strong understanding of motor controls principles and software (FOC -SVPWM, 6-step)
    • Good understanding of E-Motors, Inverters, Drivetrain, Motor control software, Charger, DC/DC converters and system integration methods
  • Electromechanical system integration and strong know-how of thermal management
  • Excellent understanding of the electric drive system targets from vehicle ecosystem point of view
  • Should have an excellent understanding of Electric Drive Development and Testing
  • Electric machine controls such as SVPWM, 6-step etc.
  • Simulation and product characterization (Simulink, Amesim, Ansys, MotorCAD)
  • Machine testing and data analysis including measurement techniques
  • Understanding of the thermal management implementation and testing
  • Understanding of drivetrain components and system integration
  • Must be able to develop test plans, conduct testing and data analysis
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of High-Voltage safety concepts for HV components and electrical wiring
  • Strong knowledge in High-Voltage and Low Voltage electrical system design
  • Power net implementation, Power distribution unit, wiring, Functional safety, HVIL etc.
  • Should be able to work with automotive communication network (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet)
  • Good knowledge in Hybrid and EV system architecture design
  • Good understanding of vehicle control system requirements
  • Must be able to lead technically and provide guidance
  • Must be able to develop innovative solutions and application-specific design
  • Knowledge in vehicle propulsion and performance calibration
  • Vehicle testing and calibration for electric system efficiency optimization
  • Professional communication skills to interact with customers
  • Good written and oral skills to articulate complex engineering problems
  • Must able to work in a team environment in a cross functional discipline

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field
  • required
  • Candidates with Master’s or PhD degree preferred
  • Experience in automotive industry preferred (3-5 years)
  • Understanding of following tools used in automotive applications
  • Vector CANape, CANalyzer
  • ETAS INCA , ATI Vision
  • Matlab/Simulink, C/C++
  • dSPACE, Motohawk, Pi-Innovo
  • Microsoft Office
