Project Overview:
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF will be built by 2025 for $6.5 billion and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future. The UPF project works on a 9-80 schedule with every other Friday off. Start times are flexible but the standard work week is: Monday - Thursday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. The schedule on working Fridays is: 7:00am-3:30 pm.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Position Summary:
Performs Electrical Controls and Systems engineering activities, which will include as a minimum the use of SETROUTE, BlockDraw, ETAP and equipment procurement. Individual must have extensive understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line and 3-line drawings, schematics, and be able to size equipment and independently perform Load Flow, Voltage Drop, Short Circuit, Diesel Generator sizing, Protection, Coordination, Relay Setting, Cable sizing calculations, ARC Flash Analysis using ETAP and overhead line sizing calculations using PLS-POLE /PLS-CADD. Individual shall be able to develop material requisitions, specifications and QLD/TECAM for equipment where deviations from standard documentation is required. Performs special tasks, studies and user guides, and provides leadership, training, and consultation to co-workers. May have junior level engineers/drafter subordinates. Responsible to produce basic and higher-tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope. Conducts checking as required. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for the preparation of electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions and system descriptions related to design tasks. Interface with Construction, Start-up, Switchyard and Subcontractors. Support the EGS through preparation of discipline specific deliverables, and performance of special tasks. Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks. Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures. Must work well with others, other disciplines, and groups. Must understand electronic Cable Management Systems, such as SETROUTE, and be able to input and complete corrections to the data base.
Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications:
Level One - BS degree in electrical engineering with 6 years of related electrical design experience; or MS degree in electrical engineering with 4 years of related electrical design experience.
Level Two - BS degree in electrical engineering with 9 years of related electrical design experience; or MS degree in electrical engineering with 7 years of related electrical design experience.
Must have 5 year of experience in Electrical Engineering developing documentation for Conceptual, Preliminary and Final Design
Must be a US citizen.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education
Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy Q Clearance
EIT Certification or able to obtain within 12 months of employment
Hands on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs
Extensive knowledge and application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards
Extensive knowledge on electrical systems, schematics and electrical equipment layouts
Minimum 5 years experience with industry wide electrical design tools, such as CAD 2D and cable designing and routing software
Excellent oral & written communications skills
Preferred Qualifications:
PE Registration
Lead or supervisory experience
Experience with SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections in the data base
Skilled in the use of ETAP, PLS-POLE and PLS-CADD and the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint
