Innovative Collaborations (IC) team is part of the Worldwide Strategic Collaborations function and sits within Medical Capabilities. The Senior Director will manage a team focused on building multi-lateral collaborations between BMS and the public/private sector in the US, effectively balancing the BMS pipeline, medical and data needs across Oncology, Hematology, Immunology and Cardiovascular with that of external collaborators’ capabilities. This position will report to the Executive Director, US Strategic Collaborations and Global Health Equity. The Senior Director is expected to:
Build, manage and coach, for sustained high performance, an externally focused team accountable for seamless execution of strategically aligned innovative collaborative research that address key data gaps
Implement a new governance model for Innovative Collaborations that enables above disease strategic decisions, resource prioritization and research investment trade-offs
Partner across the drug development continuum (from Discovery to Commercialization) to set the strategy and research agenda for multi-lateral research collaborations (e.g. PICI) that accelerate the development of the pipeline across therapeutic areas of interest
Advise senior functional leaders on new research opportunities, leveraging a strong understanding of multi-lateral collaboration models & capabilities to inform strategy and influence strategic decisions
Employ strong business acumen and fiscal stewardship driving reciprocal scientific value creation and allocate resources consistent with priorities; Leverage analytics (e.g. BI&A) to optimize collaborator model & research study milestones
Create access to Collaborators’ technologies and insights that advances and/or broadens BMS’ pipeline (e.g. novel combinations, new targets, disruptive technology/platforms) Ensure consistent utilization of business platforms and tools to share insights to inform strategic decisions
Contribute to the evolution of WW Strategic Collaborations infrastructure that can scale up across the enterprise to meet new business priorities
Promote an inclusive environment and culture which emphasize teamwork, cooperation, mutual respect, personal accountability and a commitment to diversity
Qualifications:
Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD or PharmD) with solid experience in Oncology, Hematology, Immunology and Cardiovascular disease; other advanced scientific degree with extensive, relevant clinical experience will be considered
Established strategic leader with at least 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry possessing an in-dept understanding of clinical and business development, Medical Affairs and Commercial functions related to drug development process ideally across a broad range of therapeutic areas
Must be familiar with all phases of oncology drug development, including clinical development, regulatory and life cycle management. In-depth knowledge of clinical trial design and processes
Demonstrated ability attract, develop, and sustain a high-performing team with a proven ability to successfully lead teams (including matrix colleagues) through change
Adept at building credibility with external investigators & collaborative partners, competently balances business and scientific acumen during engagements anchored by strong leadership behaviors, authenticity, agility and enterprise mindset
Understanding of the US healthcare system and multi-lateral collaboration model frameworks with demonstrated ability to navigate and lead through ambiguous and changing healthcare and business environments
Ability to lead and manage a complex (e.g., cross-functional, matrix designed) project team
Demonstrated use of communication and change leadership strategies/actions to influence new ways of thinking
Possesses exceptional communication & interpersonal skills needed to influence Senior management decisions; expertly adapts communication style to audience
Expected 20-30% travel within the continental US
Position is based in Lawrenceville (Princeton Pike) New Jersey offices
