We need more machine learning models than data science teams can create and/or keep up with to meet this demand. This future demands that we make data scientists more productive by empowering anyone needing a quantitative prediction from data with the ability to create, evaluate and deploy ML Models.  

The Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) team is part of the Azure AI Platform and is leading the charter for “Democratizing AI for the Intelligent edge and Intelligent cloud”. 

AutoML team works on developing new meta-machine learning models to automate the construction and tuning of machine learning solutions. The goal of the team is to help expert Data Scientists, Enthusiasts and Business Users to build high quality, enterprise ready, machine learning models with the click of a button. Automated ML covers classification, regression, time series forecasting, natural language processing, computer vision -- and any machine learning task you can build to cover our customer’s needs.  

We are looking for a Senior (Applied) Data Scientist that specializes and has passion for Time Series Forecasting. You will be part of this high-energy team and work on exciting forecasting problems across different domains, e.g., retail, finance, energy, utility, healthcare, transportation etc. In a typical day, you will work closely with talented data scientists, engineers, PMs and customer solution architects. Your work will include cutting edge technologies that enable the automated data processing, featurization and modeling on time series data to solve the practical business forecasting problems. As a successful data scientist in our team, you are open-minded and are great problem-solver who enjoys diving into data, generalizing the pattern, and developing algorithms which work for broader scenarios.  

Responsibilities

The main responsibility of your role includes:  

• Solving the real-world business problems by developing automated Time Series Forecasting algorithms. 

• Conducting research and development of new Time Series Forecasting modeling capabilities by collaborating with colleagues from Microsoft Research.  
• Experimenting and building the prototype of the algorithms and working with engineers to shipping into production. 
• Mentoring junior data scientist on the team. 

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD focused on quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Physics, or Engineering. 
• Expertise in statisticsand causal inference. Real-world experience on problems like Demand Forecasting, Optimization, Inventory management is preferred. 
• Team player with excellent problem solving and data analysis skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Experience and proficiency in coding related to prototyping as well as production software.
• Expertise inforecastingPython or R Open-Source ML/Data science packages.  
• 5+ yearsof working experience in Time Series Forecasting solutions.
